There has actually not been a Kimura Shonosuke for over five years!
Has that ever happened before in say the last 150 years?
The Wikipedia page on gyoji says the 37th Kimura Shonosuke retired in
3/2015, and the senior tate gyoji had to retire after a controversy over
harassment in 2019. The Somu Kyokai page seems not to reflect this
update. Is there a tate gyoji at all now?
Sorry... cancel that -- it was the predecessor:

"In January 2018, the 40th Shikimori Inosuke (Itsuo Nouchi) was
suspended for three tournaments for sexually harassing a junior
referee.[8] The Japan Sumo Association accepted his resignation in May
2018 when the suspension concluded."
There is a Shikimori Inosuke...but no Kimura Shonosuke,
the Shikimori Inosuke would normally be promoted to that
position at some point but I gather the previous one
(who I remember seeing lead a dohyo-iri parade when he
was Shikimori Kindayu) blew it and the current one hasn't
been in office long enough?
I'm not sure how many "inherited" gyoji-names there are,
I suspect all the sanyaku-gyoji names are handed down
rather than the ones gyoji pick to start.

at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
