• Oho!

    While his two brothers went 3-4 (younger brother Mudoho lost to the
    even younger Yoshii,who at 4-3 will be in the upper half of Makushita
    in January and turns 18 next August),Taiho's highest-ranked grandson
    went 6-1 at Makushita 1 and finally makes the leap to sekitori status...
    his new shikona,as the first sekitori born in the year 2000,will be
    "Oho".

    It's an homage to his grandfather..."Tai"/"Dai" and "O" are both
    augmentives meaning "big" or "great" (as in o-zumo,o-zeki,or
    dai-yokozuna) and can be represented by the same character,apparently;
    "Taiho" has been translated "Great Bird" and someone has rendered
    "Oho" as "King Phoenix".

    He has quite a legacy to live up to,we'll see how he does in juryo.

    Meanwhile Hoshoryu (Asashoryu's nephew) wound up make-koshi in makuuchi,
    while both Oshoryu and Shohoryu were kachi-koshi in makushita.
    My hopes of a Confusion Trio remain on track.

    The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
    at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
