Game 1, on Tues. April 29, 1980, CBC showed NY Islanders at Buffalo, at least in Toronto. In a small article in that day's (or maybe the day before's) Toronto Star, a CBC spokesman was quoted as saying they were showing NYI-Buf. He said they had just showed 10 straight Minnesota games, and they wanted Canada to see Buffalo and the Islander because the audience had not seen them. Minnesota swept Toronto 3-0 in the first round, and shocked defending 4-time Cup champ Montreal 4 games to 3 in the quarterfinals. Games 2 and 3 may also have been NYI-Buf, but game 4 was definitely Phi-Min.

1955: Detroit-Toronto. CBC. Foster Hewitt. National (excluding Quebec). Montreal-Boston. CBC. Danny Gallivan. (Quebec only; Games 1 - 4). Full National (g 5).

1954: Detroit-Toronto. CBC. Foster Hewitt. National (excluding Quebec; Games 1rCo4). Full National (Game 5).
Montreal-Boston. CBC. Danny Gallivan. (Quebec only)

1953: Montreal-Chicago. CBC. Danny Gallivan. Full National
    Boston-Detroit. No Coverage

    a few corrections/additions:

Before the 1958 finals, there were no color commentators; Keith Dancy started in 1961; Danny Gallivan did the Montreal semi finals in 53-58; Foster Hewitt the Toronto semis in 1954. From 1959 thru 1967 Montreal and Toronto were both in the semi finals (the first round); games involving Canadiens (except at Toronto) were done by Danny Gallivan and Frank Selke (59-61) or Keith Dancy (61-67); games involving Leafs were done by Bill Hewitt (play-by-play) and analyst Foster Hewitt (59-61), Jack Dennett (62), Bob Goldham 63, 64, or Brian McFarlane 65-67.

From 1968-78 all Canadiens games except at Toronto in 78 had Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin; Bill Hewitt and Brian McFarlane did all Leafs games except at Montreal, and in addition 1970 Pit-StL 1972 Chi-NYR 1974 Bos-Chi 1975 Phil-NYI; Bob Cole and Brian McFarlane did 1976 Phil-Bos.

The 1968 Min-STL semi final was Dan Kelly and Dick Irvin, Jr.

1978 BOS-PHI Bob Cole, Bill Clement, McFarlane; MTL-TOR Gallivan, Irvin, Chico Resch (Game 1), and Clement (Game 2) @ Mont; Hewitt, McFarlane, Peter Mahovlich (Game 3), and Phil Esposito (Game 4) @ Toronto

1980 Buffalo-NYI Cole, Gary Dornhoefer; Ph-Min Jim Robson, Gerry Pinder

1986 Montreal-Rangers Cole, Irvin; CGY-STL Don Wittman, John Davidson local CBC Calgary

1989 Calgary-Chicago" Don Wittman, Neale; MTL-PHI: Cole, Scotty Bowman, and Irvin
