During the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons, the NHL had games on CTV. The TV deal with CTV had with the NHL was started by the Quebec Nordiques and the U.S. based franchises to try and break the monopoly CBC had on nationally televising games in Canada. The main sponsor of the NHL on CTV was Carling O'Keefe breweries who also owned the Qu|-bec Nordiques.

    3/15: Winnipeg-Quebec
    3/22: Montreal-Washington
    3/24: Quebec-Hartford
    3/29: Edmonton-Hartford

CTV was also slated to televise the 1986 All-Star Game from Hartford but had commitments to televise a US mini-series. They then sold off the ASG to TSN.
Normal commentators were Dan Kelly and Ron Reusch in the booth, with Dan Matheson as host, assisted by either Brad Park or Bobby Taylor in the studio. Either Brad Park or Bobby Taylor will also serve as the third-man in the booth with Kelly and Reusch.
Not to nit-pick, but the New Year's game between Montreal and CSKA, although on CTV, was not part of the "NHL on CTV" package, which was presented by Carling O'Keefe. That package did not have any games from the six Canadian cities where Molson owned the television rights. The New Year's Eve game was in Montreal and was presented by Molson and was a "Special Presentation of CTV Sports", although they utilized the NHL on CTV on-air talent. Bob Cole, Ron Reusch, and Dick Irvin, Jr. called the action.
CTV/Carling O'Keefe signed a contract well into the 84-85 season and wanted cram as many games as possible in the brief window they had.
