Looks like Aston Villa's title challenge came to a premature end with a home drubbing at the hands of Leeds. Hatrick for Bamford.

    WHU 1-1 MC
City have dropped points in 60% of their games so far. Maybe LFC can cope without VVD. Many clubs may fancy their chances this season. There are no winning machines it appears.

Liverpool still look good. The number of opponents against which VVD's absence will make itself felt seems manageable. Jota was an inspired buy.

Liverpool have a much better defensive record this season without VVD.

I think his absence is most felt in the air; on set-pieces, long balls, and crosses. He used to dominate the area and now teams with big target men will have a real go.

    MU 0-0 CFC
Bit of a snoozefest as both teams set out to primarily avoid defeat. Maguire puts Azpilecueta in a choke-hold (almost literally) in the box but the VAR ref was on a piss break. Mendy looks like a good buy, made some big saves.

    LFC 2-1 SU
Fabinho cleanly won the ball a half a foot outside the box but the ref and VAR somehow conspired to make that a penalty. It was mind-boggling stuff. But LFC showed grit and came back to win it.

Generally speaking, I was one of the biggest proponents of VAR, but it' implementation in the EPL is so horrifically bad that it hasn't solved much. If we still talk about outrageous calls every single week then what's the point?
