• CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers Round 2 (R)

    From Werner Pichler@24:150/2 to rec.sport.soccer on Tue Oct 13 13:56:25 2020
Halftime in La Paz and an expectedly shambolic match between Bolivia and Argentina. Werder legend Marcelo Moreno heads the home team in front but a hapless Bolivian defender gifts Lautaro Mart|!nez the equaliser.

Just caught the last 10 mins, plus 7 mins of added time and now some high altitude hijinks, but the Argies win 2-1. meanwhile, Ecuador 2 - 0 Uruguay ht.

Well, the old timers from Uruguay in a deep hole. Var, correctly denies a handball and Ecuador scores with a direct move from the goal kick that took like about 3 seconds. I get the feeling Uruguay are going to resort to a more physical style now.

Ecuador lead 4-0, before the ref kept giving Lou Sugarman penalty kicks, he scored both.
    4-2 ft
I know that qualifying is not a sprint, it is more like a marathon or at least a 5k or10k, but this is a good win for Ecuador, who I thought looked good. On the other hand, not impressed by Uruguay, but yeah, we re like what, 1/9 of the way through this thing and you got altitude and what not. Altitude means something, I feel a lot more drunk here at the cottage than at home, strictly due to altitude, well that and consuming more, but take nothing away from the altitude factor.

Too much VARing in football, it changes nothing, we just waste more time looking at slow motion replays that no one agrees with. Venezuela get a goal called back for a ball that barely hits the attackers arm as he headed in a goal, you would not have known it unless you watched in super slow motion and it would have gone in regardless of whether it hit his arm or not, kinda stupid if you ask me. VARing just so some pedantic idiots can feel good about having everything correct and by the book.

Chile leading Colombia 2-1 at the half, hope the oldtimers can keep it going in the second half, bit fortunate penalty given for the first goal, but otherwise Chile looking good
meanwhile Peru 2 - 2 Brazil that second goal looked offside, but the Brazilian players intimidate the ref and make him give it.
