Sort of start to the season, with Pokals and Super Pokals and Super Tacas and super charity cups and such.
SO what do we know ater the Super Charity cup? Liverpool will win
the WWEpl.
But Salzburg beat Liverpool, so I guess they're going to win the
Champions League? And Sturm Graz will take the Eastern Bundesliga.
All kidding aside, is winning the Charity/Community shield not a bit
like a kiss of death in terms of winning the league the following year ?
Here are the EPL era results
1992 Leeds won, did not retain league title (0/1)
1993 Man U won, did win league title (1/2)
1994 Man U won, did not retain league title (1/2)

1996 Man Utd won, did win league (2/3)
1997 Man Utd won, lost league to Arsenal (2/4)
1998 Arsenal won, lost league to Man U (0/1)
1999 Arsenal won, also won league in 2000 (1/2)

2018 Man City won, did win title in 2019 (1/2)
2019 Man City won, did not win title in 2020 (1/3)
2020 Arsenal won, did not win title in 2021 (1/8)
2021 Leicester City won, did not win title in 2022 (0/1)
2022 Liverpool won -- league champions ?????
Overall:
Man Utd. 5/11
Arsenal 1/8
Chelsea 2/3
Man City 1/3
Liverpool 0/2
Leicester 0/1
Everton 0/1
Leeds 0/1
Overall success rate 9 teams (out of 30 winners) went on to win the
title after winning the Charity shield. I did not look closely yet to
see how often each of the league winners, league runners up (in cases
where the league winner won the double) or cup winners actually won.
Obvious FA cup winners from this list would include Arsenal 5 times,
Everton and Leicester, Chelsea in 2000 and 2009, Liverpool in 2001,
2006, and 2022. Arsenal in 1999 would have entered as runners up.
