    I just realised that European football comes to Viborg, Herning and
    Silkeborg this season. Plot them into a map, and you'll see they're
    quite close to each other, forming a triangle with sides of 40-50km.
    Mind you, this isn't some urban conglomeration, but a rural area with
    those 3 towns and a bunch of villages.

    Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round, 1st leg
    August 4
    Champions Path
    (no seeding)

    Malm|| FF (SWE) v F91 Diddeleng (LUX) 3-0 (0-0)
    (Kiese Thelin 54', Toivonen 81', Birman-ievi-c 85'; Red Card: Morren (Did) 31') As Anders has said, Malm|| have fired their Serbian manager Milo+i Milojevi-c after
    they had lost twice against ++algiris in the CL qualifiers, and so it was sporting director Andreas Georgson on the bench as caretaker. The Luxembourg champions weakened themselves when their Belgian midfielder Charles Morren collected two bookings in ten minutes, but it took twenty more minutes (and a missed penalty) until Malm|| finally and deservedly capitalised - Joseph Ceesay broke through on the right wing and centred for Isaac Kiese Thelin to tap in. Two late goals relieved the Swedes from any worries regarding the return leg - Ola Toivonen headed in Felix Beijmo's long cross, and the 36-year-old veteran striker in return provided the through ball that Veljko Birman-ievi-c pushed past
    D|+delingen keeper Fox.
    NK Maribor (SLO) v HJK (FIN) 0-2 (0-0)
    (Browne 47', Radulovi-c 64')
    Continuing Slovenia's bad European season. HJK winger David Browne, the only Papua New Guinean footballer to have ever made it in Europe, and now the first one to ever score in a European competition, finished off a great one-two with Santeri Hostikka: https://juststream.live/MarkIncidentsManuscripts Young Serbian
    striker Bojan Radulovi-c, a loanee from AIK, tapped in Brazilian in the North Marilo's cross for the second.
    Linfield FC (NIR) v FC Z|+rich (SUI) 0-2 (0-1)
    (Aiyegun 8', Gnonto 64')
    To say it's been a rough start to the season for the Swiss champions and their new manager Franco Foda would be a big understatement, but their trip to Northern Ireland at least didn't add to the pressure. Beninese international Tosin Aiyegun finished off a delightful one-two with Antonio Marchesano: https://gfycat.com/smartcarelessgoldfish and Wilfried Gnonto, despite a flurry of transfer rumours still in Z|+rich, single-handedly took on the Linfield defence to score the second.
    Shamrock Rovers FC (IRL) v KF Shkupi (MKD) 3-1 (2-0)
    (Burke 13' (pen), Watts 29', O'Neill 90'+8; Queven 77';
    Red Card: Hamidi (Shk) 84')
    An early penalty and nice ball control by Dylan Watts: https://gfycat.com/IncomparableCompassionateGraywolf gave the League of Ireland leaders a two-goal lead, but things didn't look too bad for the Northern Macedonians when their Brazilian Queven 'Putita' unleashed a rocket from twenty-
    five metres that left Rovers' Northern Irish keeper Alan Mannus sprawling: https://gfycat.com/linearelectricdarklingbeetle Still, Shkupi were reduced to ten when their Algerian forward Walid Hamidi collected a second booking, and in the eighth minute of stoppage time Gary O'Neill curled in a great shot to give the Irish champions a much more comfortable lead for the return leg: https://gfycat.com/RepentantRemoteDrever
    Olympiacos FC (GRE) v +aK Slovan Bratislava (SLK) 1-1 (0-0)
    (El-Arabi 86'; Green 63')
    Like Malm||, Olympiacos fired their coach Pedro Martins after getting comprehensively beaten by Maccabi Haifa in the CL qualifiers, but they stuck with the Iberian theme and brought in former Huddersfield manager Carlos Corber|in instead. So far, not to much effect as the Slovakians took the surprising lead when their English forward Andre Green stole the ball off Sokratis (Dortmund and Arsenal fans will knowingly shake their head) and bent a shot past Vacl|!k: https://gfycat.com/dismalexcitableislandwhistler At least veteran Moroccan striker Youssef El-Arabi, on as a substitute, headed in a trademark Valbuena corner kick for the equaliser.
    Main Path
    * = seeded team
    AEK Larnaca FC (CYP) v FK Partizan (SRB)* 2-1 (1-1)
    (|Ungel Garc|!a 34', Mili-ievi-c 70'; Menig 18')
    Partizan have had an uncharacteristically subpar start to the Serbian league season (having dropped almost as many points after a handful of matches as during all of 2021-22), but they took an early lead against the Cypriots when their Cape Verdean forward Ricardo Gomes rounded Larnaca's Bosnian keeper Piri-c
    and laid off for Dutchman Queensy Menig to lift the ball into the empty net: https://gfycat.com/ampledifferentbarnacle A Serbian, longtime former Fiorentina defender Nenad Tomovi-c, provided the assist for AEK's equaliser by heading Lu|!s
    Gustavo's corner kick back across goal, and Spanish left-back |Ungel Garc|!a volleyed in. The Cypriot winner also came from a Lu|!s Gustavo corner kick - his
    Portuguese compatriot Bruno Gama latched onto the loose ball and the rather miscued shot fell perfectly for Bosnian centre-back Hrvoje Mili-ievi-c to steer it
    in: https://gfycat.com/colossalunluckygalapagoshawk
    Fenerbah|oe SK (TUR) v 1. FC Slov|icko (CZE)* 3-0 (2-0)
    (Mor 17', Lincoln 45'+2, 81'; Red Card: Hofman (Slo) 48')
    The Czechs hit the outside of the post early on through their Iraqi-German left-
    back Merchas Doski, but Fenerbah|oe scored first thanks to a precise shot by Emre
    Mor, who has kind of rekindled his career with Fatih Karag|+mr|+k last season and
    so earned himself a move to a bigger Istanbul club: https://gfycat.com/costlyembellishedargusfish Another new arrival at Fener, the Brazilian Lincoln who had played previously on the Azores for Santa Clara, made it two just before the break with a great free-kick: https://gfycat.com/optimisticdelayedborderterrier The Czechs were also a bit hard done by as Stanislav Hofman's handball near the half-way line looked perfectly innocuous but was still punished by the Portuguese ref with a second yellow, and eleven against ten Fenerbah|oe had a bunch of opportunities until Lincoln got his second of the night with another great curler: https://gfycat.com/idlehighlevelglobefish

    Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round, 2nd leg
    Teams in CAPITALS through to ELPO, losers go to ECLPO
    August 9
    Champions Path
    (no seeding)
    KF Shkupi (MKD) v SHAMROCK ROVERS FC (IRL) 1-2 (0-0), 2-5 on aggregate (Adetunji 90'+4; Gaffney 65', Emakhu 85')
    Rory Gaffney settled the tie when his deflected shot curved over Shkupi keeper Naumovski. Late on youngster Aidomo Emakhu rounded Naumovski on the break, and Sunday Adetunji's stoppage-time goal was just consolation.
    Hugely important win for the Rovers since they are now guaranteed group stage football, only the fourth time a League of Ireland team manages this feat after Shamrock Rovers themselves in 2011-12, and Dundalk in 2016-17 and 2020-21 (all of those in the Europa League).
    August 11
    Champions Path
    (no seeding)
    HJK (FIN) v NK Maribor (SLO) 1-0 (0-0), 3-0 on aggregate
    (Hostikka 54')
    The Slovenian champions made an effort to overcome the first-leg deficit but were toothless in attack, and in the second half Santeri Hostikka sealed HJK's second consecutive European group stage with an angled shot past Maribor's Dutch keeper Bergsen: https://gfycat.com/PastelMisguidedHuman
    FC Z|LRICH (SUI) v Linfield FC (NIR) 3-0 (2-0), 5-0 on aggregate
    (Avdijaj 11', 26', Santini 84')
    Donis Avdijaj, who just joined Z|+rich from Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga (and who a couple of years ago while playing for Sturm Graz gave a hilarious interview to a Styrian newspaper in which he famously described his dream of owning a swimming pool filled with money and surrounded by horses) scored an early brace by first firing in Antonio Marchesano's through ball and then heading in Adri|a Guerrero's cross. Veteran Croatian forward Ivan Santini, another of Z|+rich's summer signings, tapped in Fabian Rohner's cross for the third.
    Guaranteed European football until Christmas might give Franco Foda some breathing space, but their nightmare league start with zero goals scored in the first four matches still weighs heavily.
    F91 Diddeleng (LUX) v MALM|u FF (SWE) 2-2 (0-0), 2-5 on aggregate
    (Hadji 56', Sinani 61'; Turay 50', Toivonen 52')
    Malm||'s new striker Mohamed Buya Turay, who made the news last week when it came
    out he missed his own wedding in Sierra Leone in order to make it in time to MFF's training camp and sent his brother as stand-in for the ceremony, got his first goal for the club he's that much dedicated to by firing in Joseph Ceesay's
    low cross on the counter. A bit more than a minute later Malm|| broke again, and
    Ola Toivonen likewise turned in a Ceesay cross. Credit to D|+delingen though for
    not giving up, and a well-taken goal by Mustapha Hadji's son Samir and a gift by the Malm|| defence allowed them to salvage a draw, and some points for the Luxembourg coefficient.
    +aK Slovan Bratislava (SLK) v OLYMPIACOS FC (GRE) 2-2 aet (0-0, 1-1), 3-3 on aggregate, Olympiacos win 4-3 on penalties
    (+aaponji-c 90'+4, Green 108'; Zinckernagel 54', Camara 101';
    Red Card: Abena (Slo) 90'+7)
    After a boring first half things got much more interesting after the break - Olympiacos took the lead thanks to Philip Zinckernagel's deflected shot from distance: https://gfycat.com/IdealTenderIberiannase and stoppage time was wild -
    first Slovan's Serbian striker Ivan +aaponji-c scored an offside goal, then Olympiacos hit the crossbar through Masouras, Slovan got the equaliser when +aaponji-c stuck out a foot to steer in Uche Agbo's fierce cross: https://gfycat.com/ablehelplesskid and also a player sent off when Suriname international Myenty Abena received a second yellow following an altercation with former Porto striker Tiquinho Soares. It looked like Olympiacos had won it against ten men when Masouras headed a long ball back across net and Guinean winger Aguibou Camara got away from his marker and slid in to steer the ball through Slovan keeper Chovan's legs: https://gfycat.com/spiffysoupyantipodesgreenparakeet but just seven minutes later the Greek champions, apparently not wanting to be outdone in terms of bad defending, on occasion of a free-kick allowed four Slovan players to show up alone in front of their Czech keeper Vacl|!k and in the end it was Englishman Andr|- Green who nodded the ball in: https://gfycat.com/glisteningcrisplcont
    In the shoot-out veteran former Genoa and Milan midfielder Juraj Kucka (who fired high) and the young Georgian Giorgi Chakvetadze (Vacl|!k saved) missed for
    Slovan, while only Pierre Kunde (also high) failed to convert for Olympiacos. In
    the end, who else but Mathieu Valbuena to despatch the decisive spot kick.
    So on (yet another) night to forget for Greece, Olympiacos as their last remaining team at least assured themselves of a place in a European group stage.

    1. FC Slov|icko (CZE)* v FENERBAH|cE SK (TUR) 1-1 (0-0), 1-4 on aggregate (+aa+iinka 58'; Dursun 56')
    With the tie already all but decided after the first leg not much happened in the first half, but after the break Serdar Dursun found his way past three defenders before surprising Slov|icko keeper Filip Nguyen at his near post: https://gfycat.com/courteoussophisticatedislandcanary and the team from Uhersk|-
    Hradi+it-c immediately got the equaliser through Ond+Oej +aa+iinka who bundled the

    (Gomes 24', 54'; Gyurcs|| 51', Faraj 57')
    Cape Verdean striker Ricardo Gomes levelled the aggregate score with a goal on the break from a feed by former Leicester City flop Fousseni Diabat|-. Wild six minutes just after the break saw the Cypriots equalise when |Ud|im Gyurcs||'s low
    cross turned into a shot that rolled in at the far post, Partizan taking the lead again thanks to Ricardo Gomes's header, and Frenchman Imad Faraj scored the
    goal of the match with a great weaving solo run capped off by a curled shot into
    the far corner: https://juststream.live/CheerlessnessOnshoreFacilitator
    Right after the game Partizan fired their coach Ilija Stolica, who had been in charge for just six matches (and only one win).
