Europa Conference League 1st Qualifying Round, 1st legs
    * = seeded team
    July 5
    G++ira United FC (MLT)* v Atl|?tic Club d'Escaldes (AND) 1-1 (0-0)
    (Jefferson 46'; Lopez 65')
Good result on Malta for the Andorran debutants although truth be told there were no Andorrans in their starting XI - nine Spanish and two French - while G++ira at least featured two Maltese players among their mix of Brazilians and Croatians.
St Joseph's FC (GIB)* v Larne FC (NIR) 0-0 (0-0)
Important UEFA ranking points for Gibraltar as well.
    July 6
FC Inter Turku (FIN) v KF Drita (KOS)* 1-0 (0-0)
    (Niska 77'; Red Card: Blak|oori (Dri) 74')
Just after Ilir Blak|oori had deservedly received his second booking, 19-year-old
left-back Jussi Niska scored the winning goal by nodding in from the shortest of
ranges after the Drita defence had made a mess out of Petteri Forsell's free- kick cross.
    V|!kingur (FAR) v Europa FC (GIB)* 1-0 (0-0)
    (B|ir|#arson 51')
18-year-old local boy Olaf B|ir|#arson got the winner with a marvellous free-kick.
Having now actually been to G|+ta on the island of Eysturoy I can't help but marvel at the decent quality of players these little Faroe villages manage to bring out with a certain regularity. Football really is hugely important to them.
Other random stuff I've learned on the islands: Faroese pronunciation is all over the place. The linguists who codified the language in the 19th century stuck too close to the Icelandic and Old Norse model, and therefore several sound changes haven't been properly reflected in Faroese orthography. So V|!kingur (one Viking, singular) is correctly pronounced 'voo-itch-in-goor'. July 7
FC Alashkert (ARM)* v -aamrun Spartans FC (MLT) 1-0 (1-0)
    (Yedigaryan 25')
The Armenians, who last year made it all the way to the Conference League group stages (albeit in the far easier Champions Path) got the narrow win thanks to Artak Yedigaryan's precise shot from outside the box: https://gfycat.com/felinegrippinggartersnake
    UE Santa Coloma (AND) v Brei|#ablik (ISL)* 0-1 (0-1)
    (|Rorvaldsson 14')
Considering how well V|!kingur did against Malm||, I guess I expected a bit better
from the team currently comfortably leading the Icelandic besta deild. Still, one awful mistake by the Andorran defence allowed |isak Sn|ar |Rorvaldsson to get
    the early winning goal.
FK Panev-u++ys (LTU) v FC Milsami Orhei (MDA)* 0-0 (0-0)
    (Red Card: Stanulevi-iius (Pan) 65')
The Lithuanians had more of the game until midfielder Rokas Stanulevi-iius saw a
    second booking.
KuPS (FIN)* v FC Dila Gori (GEO) 2-0 (1-0)
    (Ikaunieks 32', V|nyrynen 90' (pen))
J-Unis Ikaunieks, along with his older brother D-Uvis one of the few Latvian footballers abroad, opened the scoring with a well-struck free-kick and former Hansa Rostock striker Tim V|nyrynen settled things from the spot.
FK Borac Banja Luka (BIH) v B36 (FAR)* 2-0 (1-0)
    (Tatar 37', Pi+i-ievi-c 84')
Benjamin Tatar, freshly returned to Bosnia from a stint in Saudi-Arabia and Kuwait, headed Borac in front after B36's young keeper Lamhauge had made a mess out of a looping high ball, and Nedeljko Pi+i-ievi-c headed in the second.
FC Saburtalo (GEO) v FK Partizani (ALB)* 0-1 (0-0)
    (Cara 47')
The Georgian defence left Albanian U-21 striker Tedi Cara all alone to tap in the sole goal in this tie.
    MKS Pogo+a Szczecin (POL)* v KR (ISL) 4-1 (3-0)
    (Drygas 7', 56', Zahovi-c 16', Bartkowski 40'; L|irusson 71')
In the ninth attempt, the first ever European win for Pogo+a (not counting the Intertoto). Kamil Drygas turned in a cross, Zlatko Zahovi-c's son Luka buried a loose ball: https://gfycat.com/knobbygleefulabyssiniancat and Jakub Bartkowski nodded in the third against overwhelmed Icelanders. After the break, both sides also scored from corner kicks.
FC Bruno's Magpies (GIB) v Crusaders FC (NIR)* 2-1 (1-0)
    (Bent 44', Pibe 49'; Forsythe 63')
The Magpies have originally been a proper 'pub team', named after Bruno's Bar & Restaurant in Gibraltar ( http://www.brunosgib.com/ ), so it's quite something to see them getting the win in their first ever European match against a team as
storied as Crusaders (in their twentieth European season). English defender Dan Bent with a precise shot from outside the box and 35-year-old Argentinian striker Juan Pablo 'Pibe' Pereira on the break gave the Gibraltarians a two-goal
lead before Crusaders pulled one back from a corner kick.
FC Flora (EST)* v SJK (FIN) 1-0 (1-0)
    (Miller 21')
Flora are leading the Estonian Meistriliiga and last year reached the Conference
League group phase (although, like Alashkert, through the far easier Champions Path), while the team from Sein|njoki are currently sitting close to the bottom of the Finnish Veikkausliiga, so the result is perhaps not a huge surprise. Still, I guess Estonians will be happy with any win over their bigger northern brothers. Martin Miller headed in the sole goal.
    MFK Ru++omberok (SLK) v FK Kauno ++algiris (LTU)* 2-0 (1-0)
    (Pilibaitis 13' (og), Gerec 68')
37-year-old Linas Pilibaitis, who 14 years ago scored the goal that quite famously knocked out Rangers in the CL qualifiers against ++algiris's predecessor
club FBK Kaunas, this time around turned a cross into his own net. +atefan Gerec
headed in the second for the Slovakians.
FC Dinamo Tbilisi (GEO)* v Paide Linnameeskond (EST) 2-3 (1-0)
    (Skhirtladze 22', Kharabadze 65'; Luts 61', Singhateh 81', Piht 89')
First ever European for the Estonians, who seem to have opened a pipeline to bring Gambian players like Ebrima Singhateh into the league, and with Ragnar Klavan, 36 by now, they also have a former Liverpool and Bundesliga player within their ranks. On the other hand, the sixth consecutive European defeat (among them a 1-6 on the Faroes) for the Georgians with an European trophy on their shelf.
    FC Sf|<ntul Gheorghe (MDA) v N+a Mura (SLO)* 1-2 (0-0)
    (Ibrahimi 89'; T. Cipot 65', Calancea 73' (og))
Mura scored a shambolic opener - Luka Bobi-ianec launched the ball towards goal from an enormous distance, it came off the crossbar, and with FCSG keeper Calancea left stranded Tio Cipot, the younger of the two Cipot brothers in Mura's squad, tapped into the empty net. Mura's second was even unluckier - Amar Beganovi-c's shot went against the post, hit Calancea on the back his head,
and bounced straight back in. Nigerian youngster Jibril Ibrahimi in his first minutes for his new Moldovan club at least halved the deficit with a great volley.
NK Olimpija Ljubljana (SLO)* v FC Differdange 03 (LUX) 1-1 (0-1)
    (Milovi-c 62'; Krefl 10' (og))
Following the tumultous Milan Mandari-c years, Olimpija are (again) in turmoil at
the moment, with coach Robert Prosine-iki leaving after having fallen out with the club's new Bavarian ownership. He was replaced by Albert Riera, the former Liverpool winger's first senior manager job, but the Spaniard saw his team immediately fall behind against Luxembourg opposition, as Matev++ Vidov+iek managed to save one-on-one against Bertino Cabral only for Alja++ Krefl to bungle
the rebound over his own line. At least Croatian centre-back Goran Milovi-c managed to head in the equaliser.
Floriana FC (MLT) v FC Petrocub H|<nce+Oti (MDA)* 0-0 (0-0)
    ...
    KF La|oi (ALB)* v FK Iskra (MNE) 0-0 (0-0)
    ......
    SC Gjilani (KOS) v FK Liep-Uja (LAT)* 1-0 (1-0)
    (Dabiqaj 37')
Albert Dabiqaj headed in a cross at the far post to give the Kosovars the win. Bala Town FC (WAL)* v Sligo Rovers FC (IRL) 1-2 (1-1)
(Mendes 6'; Keena 28', Mata 49'; Red Card: Pijnaker (Sli) 79')
Four years ago, Bala Town managed to quite heavily lose a European tie against San Marino's Tre Fiori (I'll never let them live that down), so taking the early
lead against Sligo, who are currently mid-table in Ireland, was commendable. Guinea-Bissauan midfielder Lassana Mendes volleyed in a cross. Aidan Keena, eleven matches (but no goals) in the Scottish Premiership with Hearts under his belt, lobbed Bala keeper Alex Ramsay to equalise, and New Zealand youngster Max Mata got the shambolic winning goal after a corner. The other Kiwi in Sligo's squad, centre-back Nando Pijnaker, got himself sent off after losing the ball as
    last man.
CS Fola Esch (LUX)* v SP Tre Fiori (SMR) 0-1 (0-1)
    (N|||#ez 85')
Jeez! If Bala are to be ridiculed for losing against Tre Fiori, what about one of Luxembourg's most storied clubs managing to do the same, but at home? Joel N|||#ez is a 29-year-old Argentine-Spanish forward that even exhaustive footballer
databases know very little about, but somehow he must ended up in San Marino and
now he's become responsible for the first ever Sammarinese away win in Europe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUGluAAEETA
FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR)* v FK De-ii-c Tuzi (MNE) 1-1 (1-1)
    (Kislyak 33'; Denkovi-c 26')
Because of the sanctions against Belarus, both matches of this tie are taking place in Podgorice, with the only difference that Dinamo's 'home' tie was being played in an empty stadium. Good that AGR's no longer a thing, eh.
De-ii-c took the somewhat surprising lead when Stefan Denkovi-c beat Minsk keeper
Khatkevich at the third attempt: https://gfycat.com/unknownelderlychevrotain but veteran midfielder and Dinamo captain Sergey Kislyak equalised with a rocket
    from twenty metres: https://gfycat.com/adorablegoodnaturedbedlingtonterrier
KF Shk|2ndija (MKD)* v FC Ararat Yerevan (ARM) 2-0 (2-0)
    (Shala 21', Nafiu 45')
Some nice trickery for Shk|2ndija's first: https://gfycat.com/ArcticAdmirableCavy
and the second was a perfect shot with the outside of his foot by former HSV prospect Valmir Nafiu: https://gfycat.com/goodesteemedammonite
HB (FAR)* v Newtown AFC (WAL) 1-0 (0-0)
    (Wardum 66')
HB dominated but only got the one goal through centre-back Bartal Wardum heading
    in a corner kick.
KS Lechia Gda+ask (POL)* v FK Akademija Pandev (MKD) 4-1 (3-0)
    (Paix|uo 17', 39', 66', Zwoli+aski 25'; Jokovi-c 81')
After a couple of minutes a massive brawl broke out in the Lechia stands due to some internal ultr|a/hools disagreement about the proper use of the stadium pub that could apparently only be solved with baseball bats. The match was interrupted for a considerable time, the stadium pub was trashed, and Rapid Wien, Lechia's opponents in the next round (barring a miracle turn-around by the
North Macedonians), can probably look forward to playing the away leg in front of empty stands.
Once the match got underway again, 37-year-old Portuguese striker Fl|ivio Paix|uo
scored an easy hat trick - he tapped in a cross by the Brazilian Conrado, slotted in through balls by +Uukasz Zwoli+aski and former Freiburg midfielder Marco Terrazzino, and in between he also produced the assist for Zwoli+aski's effort. At least late on Du+ian Jokovi-c managed to score the Akademija's first ever European goal, and perhaps also their last, as they will soon merge teams with FK Belasica, the other professional football club in Strumica.
FK Budu-cnost Podgorica (MNE)* v KF Llapi (KOS) 2-0 (2-0)
    (Mijovi-c 23', Ignjatovi-c 32'; Red Card: Bianor (Lla) 30')
The Montenegrins have sorely needed this kind of result, as currently only San Marino are behind them in the UEFA ranking. Still, the sending off of Brazilian in the East Bianor Neto for DOGSO was very harsh, as there was another Llapi player close by.
FC DAC 1904 (SLK)* v Cliftonville FC (NIR) 2-1 (1-1)
    (Sz|inth|| 25', Krstovi-c 65'; Ronan Hale 28'; Red Card: Moumou (DAC) 82')
More difficult than the Hungarian Slovakians probably expected. Ferencv|iros loanee Reg+a Sz|inth|| gave them the lead with an angled shot, but the Northern Irish immediately equalised through Ronan Hale (older brother Rory later came on
as a substitute) after the DAC defence had failed to cut out Jamie McDonagh's insidious cross. Still, former Crvena zvezda striker Nikola Krstovi-c got the win
with a precise shot from the edge of the box.
SP Tre Penne (SMR)* v FK Tuzla City (BIH) 0-2 (0-0)
    (Nargali-c 90'+2, 90'+3)
It could have been an even more historic evening for San Marino as the European debutants Tuzla City left it *very* late to avoid the blushes (and also missed a
penalty). Their 20-year-old saviour Salko Nargali-c had only come on in the 86th
    minute.
Derry City FC (IRL) v Riga FC (LAT)* 0-2 (0-1)
(Ramos 41', Filippov 68'; Red Card: Smith (Der) 66')
Derry's eighth defeat in their last nine European matches. Brazilian in the East
Gabriel Ramos da Penha volleyed Riga's highly international squad into the lead,
and Ukrainian Oleksandr Filippov tapped in the second.

Europa Conference League First Qualifying Round, 2nd leg
Teams in CAPITALS (except HB and KR) through to ECLQ2
    * = seeded team
    July 12
KF DRITA (KOS)* v FC Inter Turku (FIN) 3-0 (1-0), 3-1 on aggregate
    (Simonovski 2', Muja 49', 51')
Surprisingly clear win for Drita as the Finns became the first team to be completely eliminated from Europe this season. Not exactly something you would want to write on your resum|-.
    July 14
    FK LIEP-CJA (LAT)* v SC Gjilani (KOS) 3-1 (0-0), 3-2 on aggregate
    (Kara+iausks 49' (pen), Belakovi-c 64', Dod|| 88' (pen); Krasniqi 51')
Blerim Krasniqi slid into a cross by the Ivorian Lanzeni Aziz to cancel out Art+2rs Kara+iausks's soft penalty, but a brilliant strike by Kara+iausks from thirty metres that went off the post allowed the Serbian Nemanja Belakovi-c (a recent flop with Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga) to volley into the empty net, and Brazilian in the East Dod|| late on converted another penalty, this one
as clear as day, to send the Latvians into the next round.
FK Akademija Pandev (MKD) v KS LECHIA GDA+aSK (POL)* 1-2 (0-1), 2-6 on aggregate
    (Mitrovski 59'; Gajos 37', Pietrzak 82')
Maciej Gajos gave a not particularly motivated-looking Lechia side the lead with
a trademark shot from distance, and the Polish defence gave away the ball to gift Pandev's Academy the equaliser, but Lechia still secured the full coefficient points when late on Fl|ivio Paix|uo teed up left-back Rafa+e Pietrzak
    for the winner.
BTW UEFA decided to suspend Lechia's stadium closure on probation, so fans will be allowed in against Rapid Wien after all.
    Europa FC (GIB)* v V|iKINGUR (FAR) 1-2 (0-2), 1-3 on aggregate
    (S. S|inchez 73'; S. Vatnhamar 19', 45'+1)
The Vatnhamar brothers S|+lvi and Gunnar are really decent footballers (when I was watching V|!kingur away in Streymnes, before the match S|+lvi received a prize
cheque from the Faroese League for Best Player in the month of May, worth
1.500 DKK, so roughly 200 re4), and S|+lvi showed his worth also in Gibraltar with
two well-taken goals. Spanish centre-back Sergio S|inchez at least headed in a consolation goal for Europa.
FC Ararat Yerevan (ARM) v KF SHK|iNDIJA (MKD)* 2-2 (0-2), 2-4 on aggregate
    (G. Malakyan 49', 79'; Bravo 2' (og), Guri 45'+3)
Just 66 seconds in Ararat's Colombian right-back Juan Bravo clumsily bundled the
ball over his own line when trying to cut out Adenis Shala's cross, and just before the break former Oostende striker Sindrit Guri made it two by heading in a corner kick. Two absolutely awesome strikes by Gor Malakyan at least salvaged a draw for the Armenians.
PAIDE LINNAMEESKOND (EST) v FC Dinamo Tbilisi (GEO)* 1-2 aet (0-0, 0-1), 4-4 on aggregate, Paide win 6-5 on penalties
    (Singhateh 115' (pen); Skhirtladze 69', Antilevsky 93')
The Georgian teams just can't catch a break in Europe. Former Aarhus and Silkeborg winger Davit Skhirtladze tapped in a cross to level the overall tie, and just as with Dinamo Batumi the day before it looked as if the Georgians had won it in extra time when Belarusian forward Dmitry Antilevsky likewise tapped in a cross by Guinean winger Ousmane Camara, formerly of Eskilstuna and V|Nlerenga. But five minutes before the end Paide's young Gambian striker Ebrima
Singhateh earned and scored the penalty that sent the tie to a shoot-out, and after the first 11 spot kicks had been converted left-back Levan Kharabadze saw his effort parried by Paide keeper Mihkel Aksalu.
    FC MILSAMI ORHEI (MDA)* v FK Panev-u++ys (LTU) 2-0 (1-0), 2-0 on aggregate (Sp-ataru 4', Akpudje 54' (og))
The Moldavians took an early lead when Dan Sp-ataru buried a loose ball, Nigerian
centre-back Joshua Akpudje awkwardly steered a cross past his own keeper, and Dutch journeyman Jeffrey Sarpong (who had arrived in Lithuania via Ajax, Real Sociedad, New Zealand and Greece) saw his spot kick saved by Milsami keeper Emil T|<mbur. Really a match to forget for the Lithuanians, who surely would have
expected better from what's currently the second-best team in their league.
FK Kauno ++algiris (LTU)* v MFK RU++OMBEROK (SLK) 0-0 (0-0), 0-2 on aggregate Just before the break Kaunas keeper Deividas Mikelionis kept his side in the tie
when he saved Matej Kochan's penalty, but in the end to little avail.
    FK TUZLA CITY (BIH) v SP Tre Penne (SMR)* 6-0 (1-0), 8-0 on aggregate (Smailagi-c 35' (pen), 57', -ielikovi-c 49', Kuzmanovi-c 50', +aukilovi-c 58', Buri-c 83')
It took a while, but the floodgates finally opened after the break.
SJK (FIN) v FC Flora (EST)* 4-2 aet (0-1, 3-2), 4-3 on aggregate
    (Jervis 59' (pen), 66', 85', Tikkanen 113'; Lilander 9', Ojamaa 47';
Red Card: Kallaste (Flo) 82', Zenjov (Flo) 111')
The Estonians threw qualification away in impressive fashion. Michael Lilander opened the scoring with a great shot from distance and journeyman Henrik Ojamaa (he's really been everywhere, from Poland to Norway to Scotland to Tyrol to Swindon) somehow deflected in a cross to give Flora a three-goal overall lead, but Seinaj||ki were saved by their English forward Jake Jervis - the former Birmingham City youth product, who, after a career spent bouncing around between
League One and League Two took the step to move to Finland two years ago, at close to 31 with his first ever European goals got a hat trick - one from the spot, and two from tap-ins. While Jervis became SJK's hero, Ken Kallaste was Flora's goat as he managed to collect two bookings within two minutes - one for time wasting and one for an unceremonious kick to the shin - and while the Estonians at least managed to hold on to drag the match into Extra Time, one more second yellow, this time for Sergei Zenjov's absolutely pointless challenge
near the Finnish box, was too much to overcome and eleven against nine Ville Tikkanen got SJK's winner with a nicely curled shot from outside the box.
At the fourth attempt, the first time that Sein|njoen Jalkapallokerho manage to survive a round in Europe.
FC Dila Gori (GEO) v KUPS (FIN)* 0-0 (0-0), 0-2 on aggregate
That went about as expected, since unlike Seinaj||ki, who are much closer to the
bottom of the Finnish League at the moment, Kuopio currently lead the Veikkausliiga comfortably.
    Atl|?tic Club d'Escaldes (AND) v G++IRA UNITED FC (MLT)* 0-1 aet (0-0, 0-0), 1-2 on aggregate
    (Jefferson 105')
The Andorrans held on for a long time (and they would have progressed if Away Goal Rule was still existent), but Brazilian in the South Jefferson got the winner for G++ira when he immediately latched onto a through ball by Maltese youngster Brooklyn Borg (oh David Beckham, what have you done) and beat Atl|?tic's French keeper Alex Ruiz with a great shot.
B36 (FAR)* v FK Borac Banja Luka (BIH) 3-1 aet (1-0, 3-1), 3-3 on aggregate, B36 win 4-3 on penalties
    (Egilsson 35', 54' (pen), 66' (pen); Tatar 75';
    Red Cards: M. Jacobsen (B36) 44', Gaji-c (Bor) 53',
    +aarac (Bor, assistant manager) 105'+1)
B36 left-back Magnus Egilsson opened the scoring with a perfectly struck free- kick (not the first one we've seen from a Faroese team this season) but things still looked bleak for the team from T||rshavn when just before the break Magnus
Jacobsen saw a soft, but entirely avoidable, second booking. But Borac really were poor in this match, and they repaid the favour as centre-back Marko Gaji-c needlessly wrestled down Sonni Nattestad in the box, earning himself a second yellow and allowing Egilsson to level the overall score from the spot, and Darko
Lazi-c then repeated the exercise of grappling Nattestad, and with this second penalty Egilsson got his hat trick. Benjamin Tatar turned in a cross to send the
tie to extra time, but B36 keeper Lamhauge, who had been a bit of a liability in
the first leg, became the Faroese hero as he kept out efforts from Nedeljko Pi+i-ievi-c and Aleksandar Subi-c in the shoot-out.
    FC PETROCUB H|ANCE+yTI (MDA)* v Floriana FC (MLT) 1-0 (1-0), 1-0 on aggregate (+Uurcan 26')
Iaser +Uurcan tapped into the empty net after Floriana's Bulgarian keeper Kitanov
had only parried Constantin Sandu's cross-turned-shot to get the winner for minimalist Moldovans.
RIGA FC (LAT)* v Derry City FC (IRL) 2-0 (1-0), 4-0 on aggregate
    (Ramos 33', 76')
Riga and their rather shady Russian oligarch owner just smashed the transfer record for the Latvian League and shelled out 1.6mre4 for Hrvoje Babec, but even
though the Croatian youngster wasn't yet available for this match they had no problem despatching the (Northern) Irish - Gabriel Ramos da Penha volleyed in a cross by Congolese international Ngonda Muzinga, and the Brazilian in the North also beat Derry keeper Maher with a nicely curled shot from the edge of the box.
Latvia are the lowest-ranked nation (apart from special case Liechtenstein) to still have all European teams alive.
NEWTOWN AFC (WAL) v HB (FAR)* 2-1 aet (2-0, 2-1), 2-2 on aggregate, Newtown win 4-2 on penalties
    (Cowans 35', Mwandwe 45'+1; Petersen 48')
The only stain on an otherwise perfect matchday for the Faroe Islands, but it's quite a big one. Former Aston Villa youth product Henry Cowans fired in a loose ball after the HB defence had made a mess out of defending a cross, and youngster Lifumpa Mwandwe, in his last match for the Welsh before moving over the big pond to Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League, used his considerable pace to get Newtown's second on the counter. Just after the restart P|atur Petersen punished lax Welsh defending to level the overall score again, but in the shoot-out Newtown keeper David Jones (obvious Welsh name is obvious) saved Daniel Johansen's very poor spot kick, and Mwandwe managed the perfect farewell by converting the last and decisive penalty.
Only the second time that Newtown survive a round in Europe.
FC Differdange 03 (LUX) v NK OLIMPIJA LJUBLJANA (SLO)* 1-2 aet (1-0, 1-1), 2-3 on aggregate
    (Bedouret 9'; Doffo 80', Milovi-c 112'; Red Card: Maazou (Dif) 84')
For the longest time it looked as if Differdingen/Differdange/D|-ifferdeng would
be able to manage the upset as early on their Argentine defender Juan Bedouret rose to head in a free-kick, but ten minutes from time Agust|!n Doffo, an Argentine winger on Olimpija's side, managed to slot in the equaliser, and the Luxembourgers were also soon reduced to ten when Nigerien international Moussa Ma|ozou, who due to his long experience in Portugal, France, Russia, or Denmark really should have known better, saw a red card for a rough foul just three minutes after having come on as a substitute. Olimpija ramped up the pressure in
Extra Time, and they got the deserved winner through Goran Milovi-c who beat Differdange's French keeper Guillaume Cappa with an angled shot.
    -aAMRUN SPARTANS FC (MLT) v FC Alashkert (ARM)* 4-1 (0-0), 4-2 on aggregate (Prsa 55', Guillaumier 63', Jonny 73', Dod|| 75'; Yedigaryan 48')
-aamrun's return to Europe after thirty years was crowned by success as they managed an impressive comeback after a defensive lapse had allowed Artak Yedigaryan to give the Armenians a two-goal aggregate lead. Croatian midfielder Roko Prsa nodded in a deflected cross; Maltese international Matthew Guillaumier
who had just returned from a loan stint at Siena likewise headed in a corner kick; Brazilian in the South Jonny, a brand-new arrival on the island, fired in yet another cross; and Cape Verdean striker Dod|| made it four, again from a free-kick cross.
The only previous time the Spartans had survived a round in Europe was in the 1984-85 Cup Winner's Cup when they beat Ballymena.
    N+a MURA (SLO)* v FC Sf|<ntul Gheorghe (MDA) 2-1 (0-0), 4-2 on aggregate (Petkovi-c 46', Daku 81'; Svinarenco 77')
For a couple of minutes Serghei Svinarenco's shambolic equaliser gave the Moldovans a little hope, but Osijek loanee and Kosovo international Mirlind Daku
soon smashed those on the break.
    KF Llapi (KOS) v FK BUDU-aNOST PODGORICA (MNE)* 2-2 (1-1), 2-4 on aggregate (Alef Firmino 45'+1 (pen); Kurtaj 71'; -Eukanovi-c 23', 64')
Roughly 10,000 in attendance in Prishtina was by far the biggest crowd in this round, but there was also a very Balkans reason for that - in response to Montenegrin provocations (Budu-cnost, unlike e.g. De-ii-c, is a very Serbian- oriented club) in the stands in the first leg (UEFA decided that due to this 'racist behaviour' the Montenegrins will have to partially close their stadium in the next round against Brei|#ablik), Kosovar ultr|as organised major support by
fan clubs from all over the ethnic Albanian territories, including of course the
corresponding rather unsavoury banners and behaviour.
In the match itself, Budu-cnost never were in any real danger of missing out on qualification, but at least Llapi twice managed to equalise and so salvage some coefficient points. It could have been more, but deep in stoppage time Festim Alidema missed a penalty for the Kosovars.
SLIGO ROVERS FC (IRL) v Bala Town FC (WAL)* 0-1 aet (0-1, 0-1), 2-2 on aggregate, Sligo win 4-3 on penalties
    (Edwards 35')
Major upset averted. Bala Town are usually Wales's worst European entry, but they had the Irish on the ropes after Dave Edwards had volleyed in a cross, and only an inspired performance by Sligo goalkeeper Ed McGinty brought the match to extra time and the shoot-out, in which Bala Town's Jonny Spittle and Luke Wall weakly shot straight at the keeper. They're both English, by the way.
FK Partizani (ALB)* v FC SABURTALO (GEO) 0-1 aet (0-0, 0-1), 1-1 on aggregate, Saburtalo win 5-4 on penalties
    (Sikharulidze 53')
The only bright spot for the Georgians in this European week, and from their nominally worst European participant. Irakli Sikharulidze latched onto a low cross that had eluded the entire Albanian defence to make up the first-leg deficit, and in the shoot-out Saburtalo were already all but eliminated, but when Arinaldo Rrapaj could have won it for Partizani he sent his spot kick against the woodwork. In the end, Saburtalo keeper Megrelishvili's save against Partizani's young Senegalese midfielder Maguette Gueye was decisive.
    KR (ISL) v MKS POGO+a SZCZECIN (POL)* 1-0 (1-0), 2-4 on aggregate
    (Hallsson 44')
KR will kick themselves for their poor first half in Poland last week, because they were clearly the better team in this one. At least Sigur|#ur Bjartur Hallsson got the winning goal following a simple ball over the top: https://gfycat.com/closeddrearyclumber
Larne FC (NIR) v ST JOSEPH'S FC (GIB)* 0-1 (0-0), 0-1 on aggregate
(Valarino 79'; Red Card: Randall (Lar) 78')
Last year, in their maiden European campaign, Larne eliminated Aarhus and won their home match against Pa|oos de Ferreira, but this time around their European
adventure went much, much worse. St Joseph's got a historic first ever away win thanks to a defensive gaffe by Cian Bolger that allowed Julian Valarino to volley in from the shortest of ranges: https://gfycat.com/contentmildcub
SP TRE FIORI (SMR) v CS Fola Esch (LUX)* 3-1 (2-1), 4-1 on aggregate
    (Goh 30', ||ur-iinoski 45'+1, 51'; Correia Mendes 37')
    Tre Fiori did it again!
Massimo Goh actually came out of Juve's youth setup and is one of those
players that Sammarinese clubs sign exclusively for their (usually rather short)
European adventures, but Macedonian-Croatian forward Bojan ||ur-iinoski has been a
regular for Tre Fiori over the last two domestic seasons.
    All three Sammarinese goals were well-taken: https://juststream.live/DemotesPurlElaborations https://juststream.live/FarthingsCustodianMinistered https://juststream.live/HenceforwardWrensUnmitigated
    FK De-ii-c Tuzi (MNE) v FC DINAMO MINSK (BLR)* 1-2 (0-1), 2-3 on aggregate (Be-ciraj 60'; Sachivko 26', Baki-c 77')
Aleksandr Sachivko gave Dinamo the lead from a corner kick, but De-ii-c's veteran
striker Fatos Be-ciraj - it feels like ages ago that he used to be a Champions and Europa League regular with Dinamo Zagreb - levelled the game and the overall
score with a well-placed header. Still, it was a Montenegrin that ensured the Belarusian win - former Budu-cnost striker Du+ian Baki-c controlled a cross with a
great touch and left De-ii-c keeper Markovi-c no chance.
    FK Iskra (MNE) v KF LA|cI (ALB)* 0-1 (0-1), 0-1 on aggregate
    (Mazrekaj 19')
A inswinging free-kick by Kosovar winger Mentor Mazrekaj went past friend and foe and beat Iskra keeper Kordi-c at the far post for the sole goal of the tie. Iskra also were punished by UEFA with a partial stadium ban for their fans' racist behaviour in the away match in Albania, but who knows when they will next
    play in Europe.
    Cliftonville FC (NIR) v FC DAC 1904 (SLK)* 0-3 (0-1), 1-5 on aggregate (Veselovsk|+ 12', Krstovi-c 65', 90' (pen))
Easy away win for the Hungarian Slovakians. Dominik Veselovsk|+ turned in Norbert
Balogh's cross: https://gfycat.com/splendidblackandwhiteamazonparrot and Montenegrin striker Nikola Krstovi-c got a brace thanks to a fine shot from distance: https://gfycat.com/spryfrankhackee and a late penalty.
    CRUSADERS FC (NIR)* v FC Bruno's Magpies (GIB) 3-1 (1-1), 4-3 on aggregate (Heatley 33', Winchester 80', Burns 90'+3; Casciaro 37')
A bit of heartbreak for the Magpies. Things looked good for a long time, as two days after his older brother Lee had scored for Lincoln Kyle Casciaro with a nice goal on the break managed to cancel out Paul Heatley's shambolic opener, but ten minutes from time Jude Winchester levelled the aggregate score with a shot from a tight angle, and deep in stoppage time the Magpies lost the ball in front of their own area, and right-back Billy Joe Burns absolutely rifled in the
    subsequent cross.
    BREI|EABLIK (ISL)* v UE Santa Coloma (AND) 4-1 (1-1), 5-1 on aggregate (|Rorvaldsson 45', Gunnlaugsson 50' (pen), Yeoman 64', Steind||rsson 67'; Paredes 30'; Red Card: Tiago Portuga (Col) 49')
The Andorrans actually managed to take the lead in K||pavogur and level the overall score against the Icelandic league leaders when Joel Paredes beat Brei|#ablik's surprised keeper Anton Einarsson with a great looping shot from thirty metres, but |isak Sn|ar |Rorvaldsson equalised just before the break by turning in a cross, and things definitely went downhill in the second half when UE Santa Coloma's Brazilian left-back Tiago Portuga was sent off for doing a Su|irez on the goal line, and Brei|#ablik captain H||skuldur Gunnlaugsson converted
from the spot. Andri Rafn Yeoman and Kristinn Steind||rsson piled on the score against ten men.

Following their rather ignominious defeat against V|!kingur in the Champions League Preliminary Tournament, Levadia's bad European moment continued when they quickly went two down on Malta, with both goals coming from headers. Things
at least went a bit better in the second half, and late on Maximiliano Ugg|?, who
for many years now has divided his time between the Baltic leagues and Serie C in his native Italy, likewise headed in a corner kick. In the last seconds of regulation, Nigerian youngster Yunusa Muritala, who had arrived on Malta via Latvia, restored Hibernians' two-goal lead with a shot from a tight angle that got deflected in, but deep in stoppage time former Manchester City Academy alumnus Ernest Agyiri volleyed in after a goalmouth scramble: https://gfycat.com/fatpartialhound

    (Korenica 6', Rrahmani 23', 50', Berisha 73')
Following the surprise of Tre Fiori's wins against Fola Esch, we're back to more
    usual results for Sammarinese teams.

    FK Sutjeska (MNE) v K|i (FAR) 0-0 (0-0)

PFK Botev (BUL) v APOEL FC (CYP)* 0-0 (0-0)

    V|!kingur (FAR) v FC DAC 1904 (SLK)* 0-2 (0-1)
    (Krstovi-c 8', Ciga+aiks 81')
Up to that point the Faroe teams had won all four previous home matches in this European season, but despite a decent performance the Vikings from G|+ta couldn't
repeat the feat, as unlike their opponents from Dunajsk|i Streda/Dunaszerdahely they failed to score from any of their numerous chances, and late on also hit the woodwork twice.

FC Tobol (KAZ) v Lincoln Red Imps FC (GIB) 2-0 (0-0)
    (Zhaksylykov 65', Toma+ievi-c 90'+1)
An unlucky European campaign so far for last season's surprise package. Lincoln's keeper Dayle Coleing, loaned back by Glentoran to his native Gibraltar
following his move to Northern Ireland, managed to claw out Aybar Zhaksylykov's header, but unfortunately just behind the goal line: https://gfycat.com/amazingvainearwig and in stoppage time Tobol's Montenegrin's centre-back ++arko Toma+ievi-c nodded in the second goal that makes the return leg
a much more difficult proposition for the Gibraltarian champions.
KKS Lech Pozna+a (POL) v FC Dinamo Batumi (GEO) 5-0 (3-0)
    (Sk||ra+c 10', 33', Amaral 24', 66', Ishak 90'+4)
The Georgian champions had been so close to eliminating Slovan Bratislava, and now they're already all but out of Europe. Youngster Micha+e Sk||ra+c started the
rout with a bouncing shot into the bottom left corner: https://gfycat.com/aptshabbyamericanblackvulture Jo|uo Amaral likewise beat Dinamo keeper Kupatadze in the the same corner, and the unlucky Georgians saw another Sk||ra+c shot deflected in by their captain Mamuka Kobakhidze: https://gfycat.com/flamboyantyoungizuthrush Amaral got the fourth on the counter, and in stoppage time Mikael Ishak likewise punished na|>ve Georgian defending on the break.
FC CFR Cluj (ROM) v Inter Club d'Escaldes (AND)_ 3-0 (2-0)
(Betancor 5' (pen), Debeljuh 38', Feher 84' (og))
Spanish forward Jeft|- Betancor, who relaunched his career in the Austrian second
division before transferring to Romania, opened the scoring from the spot. Gabriel Debeljuh swept in a cross to make it two, and somewhat bizarrely Raul Feher, a Romanian in the Andorran squad who had also caused the early penalty, helped his compatriots once more by haplessly turning another cross into his own

    (Neja+imi-c 84' (og); Top-iagi-c 58', Kleinheisler 76'; Red Card: Gian (Kyz) 69')
In the twilight of his career (he just turned 34), Austro-Bosnian striker Mihret
Top-iagi-c has earned himself a last lucrative move from Lithuania back to a Croatian championship contender, and he repaid the favour by heading in Mario Jur-ievi-c's cross, just minutes after the latter had come on as a substitute: https://gfycat.com/impossiblemisguidedgoose Brazilian in Asia Gian (who started his UEFA career on Madeira and has made it all the way to the other end) then got himself sent off with a second booking, and against ten men L|iszl|| Kleinheisler (he'll always be Austria's killer at Euro 2016 to me, can't he retire already? Oh wait, he's only 28. Jeez.) made it two with a fine shot from distance: https://gfycat.com/mixedbelatedamericanblackvulture Late on Darko Neja+imi-c at least gave the Kazakhs a little hope for the return leg with a suicidal back pass: https://gfycat.com/unimportantsparseatlanticridleyturtle FC Kairat (KAZ)* v Kisv|irda FC (HUN) 0-1 (0-0)
    (Asani 82')
The Hungarian debutants got the win in Kazakhstan when following a nice move down the left wing their Macedonian-Albanian winger Jasir Asani beat Kairat keeper Odyntsov with turn-and-volley: https://gfycat.com/PaltrySomberJunco
FK Liep-Uja (LAT) v BSC Young Boys (SUI)* 0-1 (0-0)
    (Fassnacht 73')
Not easy at all for the Swiss favourites, but Christian Fassnacht finally shouldered in a corner kick: https://gfycat.com/lastingthriftybluejay
    FC Ararat-Armenia (ARM) v Paide Linnameeskond (EST)* 0-0 (0-0)
One shot on goal for the Armenians, none whatsoever for Paide .
    Valmiera FC (LAT) v KF Shk|2ndija (MKD)* 1-2 (1-1)
    (Gu|?ye 45'; Doriev 10', Guri 64')
Shk|2ndija took an early lead thanks to Ljupcho Doriev's precise shot from the edge of the box. Valmiera's Senegalese striker Djibril Gu|?ye equalised by tapping in a corner kick, but just as in their previous round against Ararat Yerevan a header by former Oostende striker Sindrit Guri proved decisive for the
    Albanian Macedonians.
    FK Makedonija ||or-ie Petrov (MKD) v PFC CSKA-Sofia (BUL)* 0-0 (0-0)
    (Red Card: Matheus (Mak) 45'+2)
Despite having to play one half in ten (Brazilian in the Balkans Matheus Lemos got himself sent off with two bookings in two minutes) the Northern Macedonians underdogs did very well to restrict CSKA- to just a single shot on goal.
FC Saburtalo (GEO) v FC FCSB (ROM)* 1-0 (1-0)
    (L. Nonikashvili 41')
Not-Steaua can easily turn this around at home, of course, but still, yet another disappointment for a Romanian team in Europe, while mid-table team Saburtalo remain Georgia's only hope to avoid an absolutely terrible season in the UEFA ranking. FCSB's young keeper T|ornovanu let Levan Nonikashvili's shot from twenty metres go straight through him for the winner.
Zir+O FK (AZE) v Maccabi Tel Aviv FC (ISR)* 0-3 (0-2)
    (Kanichowsky 18', Jovanovi-c 22', 54')
Easy win for what's usually Israel's strongest team in Europe. Gavriel Kanichowsky beat Zir+O keeper (or should that be k+O+Op+Or?) Mehdi C+Onn+Otov with a
low, bouncing shot, and Serbian forward -Eor-ae Jovanovi-c got a brace by first sweeping in Eyal Golasa's low cross, then firing in from close range from Kanichowsky's corner kick: https://gfycat.com/exhaustedshamefulbassethound
    SJK (FIN)* v Lillestr|+m SK (NOR) 0-1 (0-0)
    (Dragsnes 68')
Two minutes after Jake Jervis, who had single-handedly saved Seinaj||ki in the previous round, had sent a spot kick against the right post (wasn't there something about Englishmen and penalties?), Vetle Dragsnes bundled the ball over
the line following a corner kick.
Molde FK (NOR)* v IF Elfsborg (SWE) 4-1 (0-1)
    (Kaasa 49', Haugen 55', Breivik 60', Mannsverk 81' (pen); Alm 14';
    Red Card: Boateng (Elf) 90'+3)
Thanks to Per Frick's clever flick (it rhymes) Rasmus Alm somewhat surprisingly opened the scoring for Elfsborg: https://gfycat.com/excitablecompetentblackfly and the Swedes then defended that lead with everything they've got, leading to this great scene: https://twitter.com/gauseth/status/1550158632129634311 Still, the Norwegian vice-champions and current league leaders stopped fooling around in the second half and turned the match around with ease - Markus Andr|- Kaasa wrong-footed Elfsborg keeper R||nning with a shot through Jacob Ondrejka's legs:
https://gfycat.com/jubilantbruisedkillerwhale Kristoffer Haugen buried the loose
ball after R||nning had saved against Ivorian striker Datro Fofana: https://gfycat.com/SmoggyWindingIndianhare Emil Breivik (ahem, no relation) headed in a cross by the Dane Benjamin Hansen, and youngster Sivert Mannsverk scored the fourth from the spot.
FC Koper (SLO) v FC Vaduz (LIE)* 0-1 (0-0)
    (|ci|oek 53')
Following a couple of meagre years (including a fat zero last season) Liechtenstein have moved dangerously close to the bottom four in the UEFA ranking, and while that isn't really a concern to them (they can't lose a starter in any case), it turns out that nobody really knows what exactly that would do to UEFA's Access List. So it was very welcome in that regard that they got a goal out of nowhere when Fabio Fehr found his Swiss compatriot Tunahan |ci|oek in the box (at least there were two Liechtenstein internationals in Vaduz's starting eleven next to five Swiss and two Austrians, that's more than there used to be in the past), and likewise that the Slovenian cup winners failed to convert any of their numerous goal opportunities.
KuPS (FIN)* v FC Milsami Orhei (MDA) 2-2 (0-0)
    (Ikaunieks 46', V|nyrynen 84'; Sp-ataru 60', Camara 87')
A bit surprising how well Milsami held their own against the leaders of the Finnish League. Janis Ikaunieks met a cross by the Nigerian Henry Uzochukwu with
a fine volley to give KuPS the lead, but the Moldovans soon hit back when Dan Sp-ataru came rushing in to emphatically head Alexandru Antoniuc's cross over the
line. Tim V|nyrynen swept in a low cross by the substitute Saku Savolainen for what looked like a late winner for the Finns, but Milsami again replied almost immediately as Kuopio's Austrian keeper Kreidl got a hand to Malian youngster Mamadou Camara's shot from distance, but agonisingly couldn't keep it out.
    FK S+2duva (LTU)* v Viborg FF (DEN) 0-1 (0-0)
    (Berger 78')
Viborg were presented with an absolute dream draw for an unseeded team - first S+2duva (currently just fifth in the Lithuanian A Lyga), then the winner of
B36 vs Tre Fiori - and even though they made rather hard work of it in Marijampol-u, they took the first step towards taking advantage when Sofus Berger
ran onto Marokhy Ndione's through ball and beat S+2duva keeper +avedkauskas with
    an angled shot.
    MKS Pogo+a Szczecin (POL) v Br|+ndby IF (DEN)* 1-1 (0-1)
    (Zahovi-c 85'; Riveros 28')
Paraguyan midfielder Blas Riveros emphatically volleyed home a loose ball to give Br|+ndby the lead: https://gfycat.com/directgeneralarizonaalligatorlizard but the Poles were improved in the second half and Pogo+a got a deserved late equaliser when the Danish defence allowed Luka Zahovi-c a little too much space in the box: https://gfycat.com/untriedbowedafricanmolesnake
    MFK Ru++omberok (SLK) v Riga FC (LAT)* 0-3 (0-2)
    (Torres 43', Soisalo 45', Douglas Aur|-lio 50')
Riga's new record signing Hrvoje Babec started alongside Marcelo Torres, another
new arrival, and just four days after having arrived on loan from Cyprus (or, to be more exact, from Riga owner Roman Dubov's other club Pafos FC) the Argentine opened the scoring from Brazilian in the East Gabriel Ramos's excellent through ball. Newly capped Finland international Mikael Soisalo made it two on the break just two minutes later, and Douglas Aur|-lio, another Brazilian and another Pafos loanee, got the third after the Slovakian defence had lost the ball in front of their own area.
    G++ira United FC (MLT) v FK Radni-iki (SRB)* 2-2 (0-1)
    (Maxuell Samurai 56', 61' (pen); +atuli-c 28', Gakou 90'+2)
Radni-iki's young striker Nikola +atuli-c volleyed in Lazar Jovanovi-c's cross to
give the team from Ni+i an early lead, but since it's not 1982 anymore the former
UEFA Cup semifinalists conceded twice against their Maltese opposition in the second half. Maxuell Maia da Silva and his colourful Japanese nickname had already featured in a Europa League qualifier two years ago, back then for fellow Maltese Sirens FC, and he punished a dreadful mistake by Radni-iki keeper
Drobnjak who completely missed a harmless long ball he was trying to clear outside his box, and when he hurried back into his area to gather up the ball, for which there still was plenty of time, he instead pushed it loose, leaving Samurai with an empty-net finish. The Brazilian also earned the penalty that he converted for his second. Still, following a period of relentless pressure, the Serbians at least got the equaliser in stoppage time when their young left-back Maka Gakou, who had arrived from Jura Dolois in the French fifth tier, tapped into the empty net after G++ira's Croatian keeper Radeli-c-++arkov had parried a
    shot by Sava Petrov.
    Feh|-rv|ir FC (HUN)* v Q+Ob+Ol+O FK (AZE) 4-1 (1-1)
    (Kodro 30', 74', Rus 67', Zivzivadze 90'; Raphael Alem|uo 16';
    Red Card: Musayev (Q+Ob) 86')
Raphael Schorr Utzig, for obvious reasons called Alem|uo, gave the Azeri an early
lead by nutmegging Vidi keeper D|ivid K||vacs: https://gfycat.com/AdorableOldfashionedAttwatersprairiechicken Basque-Bosnian striker Kenan Kodro, who seems to have found a bit of stability in Hungary after
having been transferred around Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark in the last decade, equalised with a nice turn-and-shot: https://gfycat.com/hairyboldakitainu Romanian international Adrian Rus headed in
a corner kick to give the team from Sz|-kesfeh|-rv|ir the lead, Kodro then duped
Q+Ob+Ol+O's Brazilian centre-back Ruan (an injured flop at Austria Vienna a couple
of years ago) to slot past A-fayev and make it three, and in stoppage time the Georgian Budu Zivzivadze with a little luck managed to race clear and beat A-fayev one-on-one.
SK Rapid Wien (AUT)* v KS Lechia Gda+ask (POL) 0-0 (0-0)
That was... nothing. Rapid had already struggled mightily in the first round of the Austrian Cup against third-tier opposition, and especially their first half against Lechia was similarly bad.
St Joseph's FC (GIB) v SK Slavia Praha (CZE)* 0-4 (0-3)
    (Sor 21', 32', Ewerton 45'+1, Lingr 56'; Red Cards: Pecci (StJ) 34',
    Paz (StJ, manager) 40')
Young Nigerian striker Yira Sor (he's lightning quick, I think it's quite possible that we'll see him with a bigger club at some point in the future) turned in two crosses, Cristian Pecci got sent off for throwing an elbow, St Joseph's manager Abraham Paz quite hilariously was also sent off for kicking the
ball away as far as he possibly could: https://gfycat.com/aridillarchaeopteryx and the Brazilian Ewerton was left with a very easy finish as Slavia expectedly had no problems whatsoever in Gibraltar. The Czechs took it a bit easier in the second half, but Ond+Oej Lingr still made it four after St Joseph's' English keeper Ross Fitzsimmons had parried Moses Usor's shot.
    B36 (FAR) v SP Tre Fiori (SMR)* 1-0 (0-0)
    (Johansen 84')
The Sammarinese wall only broke when Tre Fiori keeper Semprini couldn't hold onto Benjamin Heinesen's shot, and Andrass Johansen buried the rebound.
(BTW if I got this right, in Faroese B36 are called 'B seks og tretivu', pronunciation 'Beh sex oh tredveh)
FC Basel 1893 (SUI)* v Crusaders FC (NIR) 2-0 (1-0)
(Ndoye 38', Szalai 48'; Red Card: Xhaka (Bas) 33')
As pointless dismissals appear to run in the family, Taulant Xhaka collected two
bookings in two minutes, but luckily for Basel the Northern Irish were far too weak to profit from their man advantage. Dan Ndoye beat Crusaders keeper Tuffey with an angled shot, and longtime Hoffenheim and Mainz striker |Ud|im Szalai back-
    heeled in a corner kick.
Royal Antwerp FC (BEL)* v KF Drita (KOS) 0-0 (0-0)
Last season Drita had the later ECL finalists Feyenoord on the ropes in the qualifiers (0-0 at home, narrow 2-3 loss in the Netherlands after having gone 2-1 up), and this year they are making life just as difficult for the southern neighbours.
    FC Petrocub H|<nce+Oti (MDA) v KF La|oi (ALB)* 0-0 (0-0)
    (Red Card: Spahiu (La|o) 27')
The Moldavians dominated against ten men but couldn't find the breakthrough. PFC Levski Sofia (BUL) v PAOK FC (GRE)* 2-0 (2-0)
    (Welton Felipe 1', Bari 19')
A bit of a surprise, but then the Greek teams are notoriously bad at this point of the season, a full month before their league starts. The Bulgarians opened the scoring after just 41 seconds when centre-back Ioannis Kargas inadvertently headed a long ball towards his own net (a bit like Gerrard's mistake against Uruguay in the 2014 World Cup) and Brazilian in the East Welton Felipe stole in to lob over PAOK's new Croatian keeper Kotarski: https://gfycat.com/flusteredmeaslyisabellineshrike Moroccan striker Bilal Bari made it two soon afterwards by rifling in Georgi Milanov's cross, with PAOK's defence again looking strangely disinterested: https://gfycat.com/agitatedthankfulferret
FC Vorskla Poltava (UKR)* v AIK (SWE) 3-2 (2-2)
    (Stepanyuk 4', Kozyrenko 24', Cheliadin 69'; Stefanelli 17', Larsson 44')
Both matches in this tie are being played in Sweden, with Vorskla's 'home' game taking place in Djurg|Nrden's (and Hammarby's) Tele2 Arena (because AIK's Friends
Arena had already been booked for a Lady Gaga concert), and behind closed doors.
Still, Poltava proved again to be bad news for Sweden as early on Ruslan Stepanyuk headed in Yuriy Kozyrenko's cross. AIK equalised when their Argentine striker Nicol|is Stefanelli beat Vorskla keeper Riznyk at the second attempt: https://gfycat.com/rareheavenlygreyhounddog but Kozyrenko restored the Ukrainian
lead when he beat veteran keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt with a precise shot from just inside the box. AIK's indefatigable captain Seb Larsson, 37 by now, equalised once more when he likewise fired in a loose ball from the edge of the area, but the Ukrainians still got the somewhat surprising win through Artem Chelyadin who unleashed a rocket from 25 metres that left Nordfeldt no chance and went in off the post: https://gfycat.com/feminineethicalangwantibo
AC Sparta Praha (CZE)* v Viking FK (NOR) 0-0 (0-0)
Sparta and their new Danish manager Brian Priske had to deal with a ten-man Norwegian wall, and they failed to find the breakthrough.
BTW the Norwegian fans cleaned up their entire away sector after the match. According to the Czech cleaning personnel, they'd never seen something like this before'. https://twitter.com/roysteffensen/status/1550205589334130688 Vikings abroad just ain't what they used to be anymore.
Aris Limassol FC (CYP) v Neft|oi PFK (AZE)* 2-0 (0-0)
    (Caju 53', Gomis 66')
Convincing win for Aris in the Cypriot heat. Brazilian left-back Caju had been left all alone by the Azeri defence to fire the Cypriots in front: https://gfycat.com/glassverifiablebluebottle and Senegalese forward Yannick Gomis, freshly arrived on Cyprus after a long career in Ligue 2, headed in a cross to make it two.
Hapoel Be'er Sheva FC (ISR)* v FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR) 2-1 (1-0)
    (Yehezkel 1', Hatuel 52'; Kontsevoi 76')
The Israeli took the lead after 43 seconds thanks to Sagiv Yehezkel's precise turn-and-shot: https://gfycat.com/willingdistinctbluetonguelizard Rotem Hatuel made it two by heading in Tomer Yosefi's cross, but Dinamo pulled one back through youngster Artem Kontsevoy (not to be confused with the identically named
former BATE forward, he's retired) who finished off a well-played counter attack
    with a precise shot: https://gfycat.com/blindunconsciousangelwingmussel -#stanbul Ba+fak+fehir FK (TUR)* v Maccabi Netanya FC (ISR) 1-1 (0-1)
(Szysz 81'; Itzhak 2'; Red Card: Galabov (Net) 90'+2)
Maccabi Netanya were another Israeli team that took an early lead when Gil Itzhak headed in a cross by former Astana and Hannover winger Patrick Twumasi. Ba+fak+fehir's new Polish striker Patryk Szysz at least got the late equaliser after Netanya goalkeeper Nitzan had flapped at a cross: https://gfycat.com/sphericalsmartkingbird
Aris Thessaloniki FC (GRE)* v FC Gomel (BLR) 5-1 (3-1)
(Gray 16' (pen), 79', Iturbe 28', Camacho 31', Palma 61'; Fabiano 11' (og)) Like Ba+fak+fehir, Aris are a veritable who is who of players you've lost sight of, and they had players from eleven different nations in their starting line- up, with none of them Greek. Former Burnley and Watford striker Andre Gray cancelled out Brazilian in the South Fabiano Leismann's inadvertent own goal from the spot, albeit with quite a bit of luck: https://gfycat.com/ArtisticEarnestAmurminnow Former Roma winger and Fantasy Scout pick Juan Iturbe gave Aris the lead with a great free-kick: https://gfycat.com/lightsimpleborderterrier Rafael Camacho - one Premier League minute for Liverpool back in January 2019 - got the third from Iturbe's through ball. Honduras international Luis Palma then likewise scored a direct free-kick:
https://gfycat.com/frequentsimilarbarracuda and Gray finished the rout with an empty-netter following a terrible pass by Gomel keeper Sadovski: https://gfycat.com/QuarterlySnarlingElephantseal
    ACS Sepsi OSK Sf|ontu Gheorghe (ROM) v NK Olimpija Ljubljana (SLO)* 3-1 (1-1) (+ytef-anescu 45'+4, P-aun 84', Karamati-c 90'+3 (og); Se+ilar 4';
    Red Card: Se+ilar (Oli) 66')
Youngster Svit Se+ilar headed the Slovenians into an early lead, but Sepsi equalised just before the break when Marius +ytef-anescu tapped in the rebound after Olimpija keeper Vidov+iek had parried his penalty. Se+ilar then turned villain as he got himself sent off for a last-man foul in the box, but Vidov+iek also saved the second spot kick of the night, this time against Alexandru Tudorie, and without conceding on the follow-up. It didn't really matter all that much though, as Nicolae P-aun scored after a corner kick, and deep in stoppage time Olimpija's young Austrian defender Mateo Karamati-c deflected a cross into his own net: https://gfycat.com/tightanxiousbullfrog Racing FC Union Luxembourg (LUX) v FK -iukari-iki (SRB)* 1-4 (1-2)
    (Omrani 19'; Kova-i 16', 51', Mijailovi-c 35', Luki-c 66')
Young Bosnian striker Stefan Kova-i opened the scoring after a goalmouth scramble, but the Luxembourgers soon equalised when Abdelhakim Omrani turned
in a corner kick at the far post. The Serbians got the decisive advantage when a bit out of nowhere Sr-aan Mijailovi-c let loose a great shot from 25 metres that
left Racing's French keeper Ruffier no chance. Kova-i got his second on the break, and youngster Jovan Luki-c made it four with another fine shot from distance.
FK Vele++ Mostar (BIH) v -aamrun Spartans FC (MLT)* 0-1 (0-1)
    (Guillaumier 30')
Oh no. Yet another rock bottom for a Bosnian team. After Vele++ keeper Bogdanovi-c
had pushed a powerful header by Congolese striker Elvis Mashike against the post, Matthew Guillaumier tapped into the empty net albeit from an offside position: https://gfycat.com/generalmiserableadmiralbutterfly
FC Spartak Trnava (SLK)* v Newtown AFC (WAL) 4-1 (3-1)
    (Yusuf 17', 41', 44', Iv|in 75'; Cowans 23')
Early on Bamidele Yusuf headed in a cross, and after Spartak keeper Tak|i-i had gifted Newtown the equaliser when he completely miscontrolled a back pass, the young Nigerian forward completed his first-half hat trick by first curling in a shot from the left side, then finishing off a counter-attack. Alex Iv|in scored a
highly deserved fourth from a long ball over the top.
AZ (NED)* v FK Tuzla City (BIH) 1-0 (1-0)
    (De Wit 12' (pen))
The Bosnians didn't have a single shot on goal, but they also kept the Dutch favourites to their single goal from the spot.
    HNK Rijeka (CRO)* v Djurg|Nrdens IF (SWE) 1-2 (1-1)
    (Vu-iki-c 13'; Finndell 38', Edvardsen 54')
In past years, Rijeka had often had the upper hand against Northern opposition (winning ties against Hibs, FCK, or Aberdeen), and they took an early lead against Djurg|Nrden as well thanks to Haris Vu-iki-c's nice little solo run that
the Slovenian forward capped off with a sumptuous shot. But the Swedes hit back through Hampus Finndell who swept in Victor Edvardsen's cross, and in the second
half Edvardsen scored the winner on the break: https://gfycat.com/sourjaggedethiopianwolf
    St Patrick's Athletic FC (IRL) v N+a Mura (SLO)* 1-1 (0-1)
(Forrester 60'; Daku 28'; Red Card: Doyle (Pat) 90'+1)
Decent performance by the Irish who had already had the better opportunities before they gifted the Slovenians a goal when Harry Brockbank mishit a back pass and Osijek loanee Mirlind Daku had no problems rounding Saints keeper Anang. Saint Patrick's got the deserved equaliser when Chris Forrester rifled in
a volley from a tight angle.
Motherwell FC (SCO)* v Sligo Rovers FC (IRL) 0-1 (0-1)
    (Keena 27')
Oh boy. Reminder that Sligo are mid-table in the League of Ireland, and needed penalties to get past Bala Town. Lovely goal, too, by Aiden Keena. https://gfycat.com/grippingcleardarwinsfox
KF Vllaznia (ALB) v CS Universitatea Craiova (ROM)* 1-1 (0-1)
    (Hoxhaj 51'; Ivan 45'+2 (pen))
CS Uni Craiova (not to be confused with league rivals FC U Craiova, who claim to
be the same club) ignominiously went out against Vllaznia's compatriots La|o last
year, and things don't look cut and dry yet this time around either.
FC BATE Borisov (BLR)* v Konyaspor (TUR) 0-3 (0-1)
    (Bytyqi 39', Michalak 58', Muri-c 90'+5; Red Card: Yaz-f-#l-# (Kon) 40')
BATE have agreed to stage both matches in Konya, with this one, their 'home' match, being played behind closed doors. In any case, their good European years appear to be definitely behind them, as even eleven against ten they got picked off by Konyaspor on the break, and it won't be for very much longer that they'll
benefit from their high club coefficient. Belarus as a whole are also sliding down precipitously in the UEFA ranking. From next year, they'll be near the very
    bottom.
    RKS Rak||w Cz-Ostochowa (POL) v FC Astana (KAZ)* 5-0 (2-0)
    (Ivi 4', Wdowiak 42', Gutkovskis 66', Kochergin 77', Tudor 90'+4 (pen);
Red Cards: Sorescu (Rak) 21', Darabayev (Ast) 62')
The other Kazakh teams have been pretty bad in this round, too, but Astana at least have the excuse that because of flight schedule problems they arrived in Poland literally only a couple of hours before the game. In any case, their Serbian keeper Marko Milo+ievi-c definitely looked dazed: https://gfycat.com/tautunderstatedarabianwildcat
    Brei|#ablik (ISL) v FK Budu-cnost Podgorica (MNE)* 2-0 (0-0)
    (Steind||rsson 88', Gunnlaugsson 90'+5 (pen); Red Cards: Ra++natovi-c (Bud) 55',
    Mirkovi-c (Bud) 69', Nedovi-c (Bud, manager) 90'+2)
Balkan teams and red cards, name a more iconic duo?

    Vit||ria SC (POR)* v Pusk|is Akad|-mia FC (HUN) 3-0 (2-0)
    (Lameiras 4', Tiago Silva 39', Andr|- Silva 65')
Not as completely one-sided as it looks, but the quality of Vit||ria Guimar|ues came through in the end, as evidenced by Tiago Silva's excellent shot from distance: https://gfycat.com/uniqueplayfulgermanwirehairedpointer

Lincoln Red Imps FC (GIB) v FC TOBOL (KAZ) 0-1 (0-1), 0-3 on aggregate
    (To+ii-c 31')
Who knew that Zoran To+ii-c - five matches for Manchester United, almost 250 for
CSKA Moscow - had decided to spend the twilight of his career in Kazakhstan?
I certainly didn't, but there he was, heading in Tobol's winner from a corner kick.
With this result, Gibraltar are slipping back among the Bottom Five associations
in the UEFA ranking and will lose a starter. It's been a good ride though.
The New Saints FC (WAL) v KF V|iKINGUR (ISL) 0-0 (0-0), 0-2 on aggregate
A bit disappointing for the Saints to be completely eliminated this early. Wales
are on the hot seat just outside the Bottom Five now, and will have to hope that
the remaining North Macedonian teams (Shkupi and Shk|2ndija) don't go on a run. KF BALLKANI (KOS) v SP La Fiorita (SMR)_ 6-0 (2-0), 10-0 on aggregate
    (Rrahmani 6', 8', 69', Abazi 73', 90'+1, Krasniqi 75';
    Red Card: Romagna (Fio) 57')
On the other hand, it's been quite some time that the Kosovan teams don't have to worry about finishing among the Bottom Five anymore. La Fiorita were a kind draw, too.

Inter Club d'Escaldes (AND)_ v FC CFR CLUJ (ROM) 1-1 (1-0), 1-4 on aggregate (Soldevila 21'; Deac 51' (pen); Red Cards: Lima (Esc) 61', Rubio (Esc) 90'+3) Qualification to the next round was never in danger, but really, a draw against what were in the end nine Andorrans? Nice throw-in to create Inter Escaldes's opener: https://gfycat.com/idolizedacidicbedlingtonterrier
With this result Andorra became the first association to have all teams eliminated. Despite some decent results it's actually been a subpar European 'season' (well, couple of weeks) for them.
    K|i (FAR) v FK Sutjeska (MNE) 1-0 (0-0), 1-0 on aggregate
    (Klettskard 66')
Yay, the Faroes are still in with a chance of reaching a first ever ECL group phase. Quite unsurprisingly, the decisive goal came courtesy of a header from a corner kick.
    Main Path
    AIK (SWE) v FC Vorskla Poltava (UKR)* 2-0 aet (1-0, 1-0), 4-3 on aggregate (Mendes 45'+3, Bj||rnstr||m 107')
So for once Poltava didn't spell disaster for Sweden. AIK right-back Joe Mendes levelled the overall score with a deflected shot in the last seconds of stoppage
time of the first half, but despite a row of opportunities the Swedes couldn't find the second that would have spared them an additional thirty minutes. Extra time was more even, but AIK got the slightly controversial winner when after a corner kick another deflected shot was parried by Vorskla keeper Riznyk, but as it appeared just behind the goal line. Of course, Goal Line Technology isn't obligatory in the poor little Conference League.
FC Gomel (BLR) v ARIS THESSALONIKI FC (GRE) 1-2 (0-1), 2-7 on aggregate (Gogolashvili 82' (pen); Gray 45', 90'+3)
Poor homeless Gomel didn't even get a coefficient point for Belarus as in the third minute of stoppage time they ran into a counter attack at the end of which
Andre Gray tapped in Juan Iturbe's cross.
    July 28
    Champions Path
FCI Levadia (EST)_ v HIBERNIANS FC (MLT) 1-1 (0-0), 3-4 on aggregate
    (|oigus 79'; Apap 78')
Ferdinando Apap headed in a corner kick, and even though Levadia immediately equalised thanks to Brazilian in the Baltics Liliu's single-mindedness: https://gfycat.com/PowerlessSelfishBarnacle it was not enough to overcome the first-leg deficit. Major disappointment for Estonia, and a big step for Malta towards a first-ever group stage.
    FC Dinamo Batumi (GEO) v KKS LECH POZNA+a (POL) 1-1 (0-0), 1-6 on aggregate (Vatsadze 64'; Czerwi+aski 76')
At least a coefficient point for the Georgians, but what a disappointing European season.
H+aK ZRINJSKI MOSTAR (BIH) v KF Tirana (ALB) 3-2 (0-0), 4-2 on aggregate (Jankovi-c 25', Ti-iinovi-c 36', -au++e 80'; Ismailgeci 51', Xhixha 83') Bosnia's chances of reaching a first-ever group phase are also still alive. Young Dinamo Zagreb loanee Niko Jankovi-c opened the scoring with a great shot from distance, and fellow Croatian Mario Ti-iinovi-c, formerly of Nordsj|alland,
made it two by volleying in Ivan Juki-c's cross at the far post. The Albanian champions pulled one back after the break thanks to their young captain
Marsel Ismailgeci converting Taulant Seferi's through ball, but Mario -au++e, another Dinamo Zagreb loanee, decided the tie for good after the Albanian defence had lost the ball in front of their own area. Redon Xhixha's late goal from a free-kick didn't change anything.
    Main Path
    FC Astana (KAZ)* v RKS RAK|oW CZ-ySTOCHOWA (POL) 0-1 (0-1), 0-6 on aggregate (Kocherhin 16')
I think it's safe to say that Astana's days as a European group stage regular are definitely over. Rak||w had already hit the woodwork twice before Ukrainian international Vladyslav Kocherhin got the early winner.
    Q+Ob+Ol+O FK (AZE) v FEH|eRV|UR FC (HUN)* 2-1 (1-1), 3-5 on aggregate
    (Muradov 34', Felipe Santos 73'; Zivzivadze 44')
A little anxiety crept in when R||vlan Muradov reduced the Azeri's aggregate deficit to two goals and Lo|>c N|-go sent a Feh|-rv|ir penalty high and wide, but
just three minutes after that miss a precise shot by Georgian striker Budu Zivzivadze calmed Hungarian nerves. Brazilian in the East Felipe Santos's solo run came too late.
PAIDE LINNAMEESKOND (EST)* v FC Ararat-Armenia (ARM) 0-0 aet (0-0, 0-0), 0-0 on aggregate, Paide win 5-3 on penalties
Second shoot-out win in a row for Paide's 'City Team' (the meaning of Linna- Meeskond), but against Anderlecht it will surely be the end of the line. Ararat's Colombian winger Jonathan Duarte was the only one to see his penalty saved.
    KISV|URDA FC (HUN) v FC Kairat (KAZ)* 1-0 (1-0), 2-0 on aggregate
    (Me+ianovi-c 39')
First ever European match in Kisv|irda, the closest international football will come to Ukraine's borders at the moment. Bosnian striker Jasmin Me+ianovi-c, who
has already played in the Champions League with Maribor, headed in the winner from Bence |utv||s's cross.
Like Astana, Kairat have fallen on harder times recently, with their owner and president temporarily arrested as a kind of collateral damage of the Tokayev/ Nazarbayev power struggles in the country.
FC Milsami Orhei (MDA) v KUPS (FIN)* 1-4 (1-1), 3-6 on aggregate
    (G|<nsari 45'+2; Gabriel Bispo 27', T. Miettinen 53', Carrillo 88',
    Valen-ii-i 90'+1)
In the first half the Moldavians for the third time in this tie managed to come back from a goal down as Radu G|<nsari tapped in a free-kick to cancel out Brazilian in the North Gabriel Bispo's hooked volley: https://gfycat.com/impartialtangiblegermanshorthairedpointer but they had no more response after the break to Tony Miettinen's header from a corner. Late on Kuopio added two on the break through Venezuelan international Daniel Carillo and Slovenian journeyman Filip Valen-ii-i.
    Maccabi Netanya FC (ISR) v -#STANBUL BA+RAK+REHIR FK (TUR)* 0-1 (0-1), 1-2 on aggregate
    (Ndayishimiye 9')
Burundi international Youssouf Ndayishimiye headed in a corner kick early on, and despite some excellent chances on both sides, not the least of which a header for the Israeli in the sixth minute of stoppage time that scraped the crossbar, that was enough for the Turkish favourites to go through.
IF Elfsborg (SWE) v MOLDE FK (NOR)* 1-2 (1-0), 2-6 on aggregate
    (Baidoo 40'; Breivik 54', Fofana 83')
A nice team goal that started with Alexander Bernhardsson's solo run and ended with Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo sweeping in gave the Swedes a tiny bit of hope: https://gfycat.com/bountifulinsidioushatchetfish but Emil Breivik's shot beat Elfsborg keeper R||nning at his near post and late on Ivorian striker Datro Fofana made sure that no coefficient points remained in Sweden after collecting Ola Brynhildsen's excellent long ball on the break: https://gfycat.com/FormalLittleFrilledlizard
    FK Radni-iki (SRB)* v G++IRA UNITED FC (MLT) 3-3 aet (1-1, 2-2), 5-5 on aggregate,
    G++ira win 3-1 on penalties
    (Tolordava 15', Petrov 77', Pejovi-c 102' (pen); Jefferson 15', 90'+4,
    Maxuell Samurai 117')
Three years after they famously eliminated Hajduk Split another ex-Yugoslavian scalp for the Maltese. Georgian centre-back Anton Tolordava gave Radni-iki the early lead from a corner kick, but Jefferson, who had already featured (and scored) for G++ira in their win over Hajduk, immediately equalised with a powerful volley: https://gfycat.com/PrestigiousChubbyKoalabear The Serbians must
have thought they'd won it when Sava Petrov wriggled his way past three defenders: https://gfycat.com/coordinatedcolorfulcoelacanth but deep in stoppage time Jefferson finished off a simple route one attack to force the game to extra time. The team from Ni+i took the lead once more thanks to a clear-
cut penalty, but once again G++ira's Brazilians came to the rescue, with Jefferson laying the ball off for Maxuell Samurai who left Tolordava in the dust
    and fired past Radni-iki keeper Dujmovi-c: https://gfycat.com/kaleidoscopicwearyappaloosa
In the shootout the rattled Serbians hit the woodwork twice, and Petrov saw his decisive effort saved by G++ira's Croatian keeper Radeli-c-++arkov.
APOEL FC (CYP)* v PFK Botev (BUL) 2-0 (1-0), 2-0 on aggregate
    (Chebake 45'+1, Efrem 90'+3)
Disappointing for the Bulgarians, as a deflected shot by Moroccan right-back Issam Chebake proved decisive. Very late on APOEL's veteran winger Georgios Efrem sent a clever free-kick through a hole in the Botev wall: https://gfycat.com/capitalpositiveladybug
NEFT|cI PFK (AZE)* v Aris Limassol FC (CYP) 3-0 (1-0), 3-2 on aggregate
(Donyoh 38', Eddy 57', Saief 62'; Red Card: Brown (Ari) 82')
Ghanaian Man City academy product Godsway Donyoh raced clear on the break and turned Aris's Cape Verdean captain Delmiro inside out before firing past their Brazilian keeper Van|i: https://gfycat.com/DemandingPleasantDipper Angolan-Azeri-
Spanish midfielder Eddy headed in a corner kick to make it two, and soon after Neft|oi took the aggregate lead thanks to US Boy Kenny Saief's excellent shot from distance. The Cypriots didn't manage to fight back, and late on their English rightback Morgan Brown, a Leicester City academy alumnus, got himself sent off with a second booking.
    PFC CSKA-SOFIA (BUL)* v FK Makedonija ||or-ie Petrov (MKD) 4-0 (1-0), 4-0 on aggregate
    (Mattheij 31', Yomov 61', Tufegd++i-c 78', Nazon 87')
After their poor first leg, a convinving win for the Bulgarians. CSKA-'s Dutch centre-back Jurgen Mattheij volleyed in after a corner kick, Georgi Yomov finished off a route-one attack, Serbian midfielder Lazar Tufegd++i-c turned in the rebound after a header by Brazilian in the East Maur|!cio Garcez had come off
the crossbar, and Haitian international Duckens Nazon got the fourth from a goalmouth scramble, again after a corner kick.
NK Olimpija Ljubljana (SLO)* v ACS SEPSI OSK SF|eNTU GHEORGHE (ROM) 2-0 aet (0-0, 2-0), 3-3 on aggregate, Sepsi win 4-2 on penalties
    (Kvesi-c 61', Krefl 70')
Mario Kvesi-c volleyed in a cross: https://gfycat.com/exaltedselfreliantlark and
left-back Alja++ Krefl stole in at the far post to turn in Timi El+inik's insidious inswinging ball as Olimpija did just enough to take the tie to extra time and penalties. In the shootout though both Mustafa Nuki-c and Ivan Prtajin missed from the spot while the Hungarian Romanians converted all their efforts. LILLESTR|yM SK (NOR) v SJK (FIN)* 5-2 (2-1), 6-2 on aggregate
(Mathew 23', Fri|#j||nsson 42', 56', 61', R||sler 85'; Laine 31', Rojas 90'+1) Yet another convincing performance from a Norwegian team. Nigerian Ifeanyi Mathew, for many years a mainstay in Lillestr|+m's midfield, swept in the opener,
and even though Malaysian-Finn Nooa Laine soon managed to get Sein|njoki's equaliser with a curving shot on the break, the tie was decided by a hat trick from Icelandic striker H||lmbert Aron Fri|#j||nsson, in Norway on loan from Holstein Kiel, and with all three goals coming from crosses. Uwe R||sler's son Colin, a Norwegian youth international, then also got on the scoresheet, and likewise from a cross. In stoppage time SJK's Chilean midfielder Diego Rojas got
a consolation goal as he punished a mistake by Mads Christiansen by lobbing over
    the LSK keeper.
    SK SLAVIA PRAHA (CZE)* v St Joseph's FC (GIB) 7-0 (4-0), 11-0 on aggregate (Olayinka 18', 29', Jure-ika 20', Fila 34', Ti|-hi 49', Ewerton 90'+3,
    Traor|- 90'+4)
Great free-kick by Ivorian midfielder Christ Ti|-hi for the 5-0: https://gfycat.com/KindheartedHeavyAmericantoad but was it really necessary to score twice in injury time to make it aggregate double digits?
Newtown AFC (WAL) v FC SPARTAK TRNAVA (SLK)* 1-2 (1-0), 2-6 on aggregate
    (A. Williams 35' (pen); +atef|inik 73', Bukata 79')
A couple of Spartak first team players had trouble with getting a UK visa,
and Aaron Williams's handball penalty made things a little bit difficult for them, but late on the Slovakians caught Newtown twice on the break and so made sure that the last Welsh team went out without any more coefficient points. VIBORG FF (DEN) v FK S+2duva (LTU)* 1-0 (1-0), 2-0 on aggregate
    (Said 1')
That's how you take advantage of a dream draw - without breaking a sweat. Nigerian winger Ibrahim Said got the winner after 17 seconds.
    RIGA FC (LAT)* v MFK Ru++omberok (SLK) 2-1 (1-0), 5-1 on aggregate
    (Babec 39', Soisalo 58'; Maslo 53' (pen))
Riga's record signing Hrvoje Babec got on the scoresheet by heading in a corner kick by Mikael Soisalo, and just after J|in Maslo had equalised from the spot, it was the Finnish international who headed in a cross himself, delivered by his Congolese teammate Ngonda Muzinga.
    DJURG|aRDENS IF (SWE) v HNK Rijeka (CRO)* 2-0 (0-0), 4-1 on aggregate
    (Hien 55', Banda 84')
Isak Hien rifled in a loose ball: https://gfycat.com/FakeGlisteningGrouper and his Zambian teammate Emmanuel Banda got the second with a precise shot from just
outside the box: https://gfycat.com/UnluckyExaltedBongo to give DIF an easy win over a Rijeka side that's still in disarray.
VIKING FK (NOR) v AC Sparta Praha (CZE)* 2-1 (1-1), 2-1 on aggregate
    (Vevatne 45', Traor|- 90'+2; Zelen|+ 42')
Definitely a surprise, and continuing Norway's good European moment.
But what a way to lose a European tie in the 92nd minute: https://gfycat.com/GlisteningColorfulAlbatross
FC FCSB (ROM)* v FC Saburtalo (GEO) 4-2 (1-0), 4-3 on aggregate
    (Dawa 44', Edjouma 55', Coman 80', Radunovi-c 87' (pen); Sikharulidze 69', Tabatadze 78'; Red Card: Cordea (FCSB) 90'+4)
Have I written before that the Georgian teams just can't catch a break in Europe? For two minutes Saburtalo even managed to take the aggregate lead thanks
to Irakli Sikharulidze's bullet header and Iuri Tabatadze's well-placed volley on the break, but Florin Coman's header and a clumsy penalty turned the tie around again, even though Andrei Cordea got sent off in stoppage time for grabbing the neck of an opponent.
With this result, all four Georgian teams have already been eliminated, the highest-ranked nation where that's the case.
MACCABI TEL AVIV FC (ISR)* v Zir+O FK (AZE) 0-0 (0-0), 3-0 on aggregate
Always good when you're able to save your energy in these early qualifiers.
    CS UNIVERSITATEA CRAIOVA (ROM)* v KF Vllaznia (ALB) 3-0 (0-0), 4-1 on aggregate (Mateiu 58', Ra||l Silva 62', G-aman 80')
After last year's disaster, a much better showing by CSU against Albanian opposition. A great shot by Alexandru Mateiu: https://gfycat.com/GlaringVariableGrunion and two goals from headers did the job.
Romania is the lowest-ranked association that still has all its starters left (again, apart from Liechtenstein).
PAOK FC (GRE)* v PFC LEVSKI SOFIA (BUL) 1-1 (0-1), 1-3 on aggregate
(Dantas 56'; Ronaldo 25'; Red Cards: Douglas Augusto (PAOK) 72',
    Vieirinha (PAOK) 81')
21-year-old Brazilian in the East Ronaldo, formerly of Bahia, scored the first goal for his new club by latching on to Lefteris Lyratzis's bad back pass: https://gfycat.com/PitifulEverlastingFanworms Benfica loanee Tiago Dantas equalised in a somewhat similar fashion when a contested ball suddenly broke through the Bulgarian defensive line: https://gfycat.com/MeatySecondhandAlaskanmalamute but after that all that the Greek favourites managed to collect were second bookings.
    KS Lechia Gda+ask (POL) v SK RAPID WIEN (AUT)* 1-2 (0-2), 1-2 on aggregate (Zwoli+aski 82'; K|+hn 16', Grill 18' (pen))
Yet again not a very convincing performance by Rapid, to put it mildly, but
a couple of days later nobody cares how lucky the win was as long as you went through. New arrival from Bayern II Nicolas-Gerrit K|+hn, who has looked like quite a good signing so far, got the opener with a deflected shot, and two minutes later Rapid were awarded a penalty even though the foul on Guido Burgstaller probably occurred just outside the box. +Uukasz Zwoli+aski's tap-in came too late for Lechia as Rapid somewhat shakily held on to the result. -aAMRUN SPARTANS FC (MLT)* v FK Vele++ Mostar (BIH) 1-0 (1-0), 2-0 on aggregate (Jonny 15')
As in the first leg, Congolese striker Elvis Mashike provided the assist for the winning goal, this time to the Spartans' new Brazilian striker Jonny.

Quite unbelievably, all three remaining Maltese teams have made it through to the next round.
FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR) v HAPOEL BE'ER SHEVA FC (ISR)* 0-1 (0-0), 1-3 on aggregate
    (Hatuel 85')
As has become the norm for Belarusian teams, both matches in this tie have been played in the same location, with the 'home' leg behind closed doors. Still, Be'er Sheva also won the second match in their stadium thanks to substitute Rotem Hatuel's late header following a gaffe by Dinamo keeper Khatkevich. KONYASPOR (TUR) v FC BATE Borisov (BLR)* 2-0 (2-0), 5-0 on aggregate (Rahmanovi-c 37', Calvo 43'; Red Card: |cikalleshi (Kon) 74')
Bosnian midfielder Amar Rahmanovi-c opened the scoring with a great turn-and- volley and Costa Rica international and long-time MLS centre-back Francisco Calvo headed in the second.
I think it's safe to say that BATE's days as a European group stage regular
    are also definitely over.
BSC YOUNG BOYS (SUI)* v FK Liep-Uja (LAT) 3-0 (2-0), 4-0 on aggregate
    (Nsame 2' (pen), Rrudhani 41', Niasse 72')
Jean-Pierre Nsame's early penalty calmed Swiss nerves, Kosovo international Donat Rrudhani made it two from Nsame's clever feed, and Senegalese youngster Cheikh Niasse added the third with a deflected shot that curved over Liep-Uja keeper Zviedris: https://gfycat.com/InfatuatedAgonizingAxolotl
    N+a Mura (SLO)* v ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC FC (IRL) 0-0 aet (0-0, 0-0), 1-1 on aggregate, St Patrick's win 6-5 on penalties
    (Red Card: Maru+iko (Mur) 71')
Mostly one-way football towards the Irish net, even down to ten men, but the Saints held on for 120 minutes and in the shootout Tio Cipot sent the decisive penalty high and wide.
    St Pat's > Mura > Tottenham?
    BR|yNDBY IF (DEN)* v MKS Pogo+a Szczecin (POL) 4-0 (2-0), 5-1 on aggregate (Hedlund 17' (pen), 33', Kvistgaarden 52', Divkovi-c 62')
Easy win for the Danes thanks to an early penalty, a terrible square pass by Pogo+a's Portuguese left-back Lu|!s Mata right into the legs of Simon Hedlund: https://gfycat.com/CompleteCandidHarlequinbug Mathias Kvistgaarden's shot through the legs of Pogo+a's Croatian keeper Dante Stipica: https://gfycat.com/GenuineSilverInsect and excellent ball control by Stipica's compatriot Marko Divkovi-c: https://gfycat.com/KaleidoscopicFirsthandAndeancondor
SLIGO ROVERS FC (IRL) v Motherwell FC (SCO)* 2-0 (1-0), 3-0 on aggregate (Blaney 4', Mata 90'+1)
Shane Blaney scored an absolutely smashing free-kick: https://juststream.live/HelsinkiBedclothesSchedulers
and late on Sligo's Kiwi Max Mata added another on the break to guarantee a fully deserved qualification to the next round for the midtable League of Ireland team.
This reminds me a lot of Kilmarnock's exit three years ago against Connah Quay's
Nomads from Wales. I'm not certain which league has the bigger drop-off in quality behind the Top Two - Scotland or Serbia?
FC VADUZ (LIE)* v FC Koper (SLO) 1-1 aet (0-0, 0-1), 2-1 on aggregate
(Sasere 101'; Kotnik 88'; Red Card: Fosso (Vad) 115')
An absolutely dismal European week for the Slovenian teams - they are now the highest-ranked country to have already lost three of their four teams - ended with this disappointment in Liechtenstein. Two minutes from time Andrej Kotnik curled a shot into the far corner to deservedly level the aggregate score, but in extra time Nigerian striker Franklin Sasere headed in a free-kick by former Sturm Graz midfielder Kristijan Dobras.
KF Drita (KOS) v ROYAL ANTWERP FC (BEL)* 0-2 (0-0), 0-2 on aggregate
    (Krasniqi 53', Balikwisha 90'+8)
Drita were again a tough nut to crack until it was a Kosovar that broke the deadlock - youngster Laurit Krasniqi headed in his first goal for the senior team from Manuel Benson's cross. Deep in stoppage time Belgian U-21 forward Michel-Ange Balikwisha beat Drita keeper Maloku with a quite outrageous lob after the Kosovars had broken up a counter-attack but had then failed to clear the ball.
    KF La|oi (ALB)* v FC PETROCUB H|ANCE+yTI (MDA) 1-4 (1-0), 1-4 on aggregate (Mazrekaj 38'; Cotogoi 54', Ambros 74', 75', Cojocaru 90'+3)
The Albanians appeared to have everything under control in the first half as Mentor Mazrekaj surprised Petrocub keeper Avram with a toe-poked shot, but they fell apart in the second 45 minutes. Corneliu Cotogoi headed in Ioan-C-alin Revenco's cross, Petrocub captain Vladimir Ambros scored twice on the counter, and Maxim Cojocaru added a stoppage time goal, also on the break.
All three remaining Albanian teams went out with defeats, a really bad European season for them. On the other hand, a nice success for Petrocub (the name of their main sponsor, a petrol station chain, by the way) and their almost exclusively Moldovan squad.
FK -iUKARI-iKI (SRB)* v Racing FC Union Luxembourg (LUX) 4-0 (0-0), 8-1 on aggregate
    (Badamosi 39', 41', Ivanovi-c 52', Spasojevi-c 73')
No chance for the Luxembourgers in the return leg either. Gambian international Muhammed Badamosi got a brace with a goal on the break and a header from a corner kick, -Eor-ae Ivanovi-c volleyed in a loose ball, likewise after a corner,
and Mihajlo Spasojevi-c punished comical defending by Racing centre-back Pit Simon: https://gfycat.com/LittleAngelicGelada
    KF SHK|iNDIJA (MKD)* v Valmiera FC (LAT) 3-1 (2-1), 5-2 on aggregate
(Bejtulai 11', Doriev 33', Ramadani 85'; Murata 25'; Red Card: Murata (Val) 67')
As written above - a couple more similarly good performances by Shkupi and Shk|2ndija, and North Macedonia have a reasonable chance of escaping the bottom five, at Wales's expense.
NK Osijek (CRO)* v FC KYZYLZHAR SK (KAZ) 0-2 (0-0), 2-3 on aggregate
    (Ivaniadze 62', Kon|- 71')
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day. Kyzylzhar are third from the bottom halfway through the Kazakh season, and Kazakhstan's other European entries didn't exactly cover themselves with glory. So it was quite unexpected when their Georgian winger Giorgi Ivaniadze levelled the overall score with a shot from the edge of the box that surprised Osijek keeper Ivu+ii-c: https://gfycat.com/disfiguredshrillanemonecrab and even more surprising when soon after the Ivorian Moussa Kon|- - eight Serie A matches with Atalanta under his belt - headed in the goal that sent the Croatians out: https://gfycat.com/ViciousFatAfricanhornbill
Croatia are the highest-ranked country to have already lost two teams.
    FK Budu-cnost Podgorica (MNE)* v BREI|EABLIK (ISL) 2-1 (0-0), 2-3 on aggregate (Jankovi-c 38', Ad++i-c 86'; |Rorvaldsson 51')
Good effort actually by Budu-cnost who took the deserved lead following a good move down the left wing, but a long ball by Viktor Karl Einarsson over the Montenegrin defence saw |isak |Rorvaldsson alone through on goal and he left Budu-cnost keeper Dragojevi-c no chance. This took the wind out of the Montenegrin
sails a bit, but Vladan Ad++i-c's header from a corner kick at least made for some
more excitement in the last couple of minutes.
With this the last Montenegrin team was eliminated. They're now second to last in the UEFA ranking.
FK Tuzla City (BIH) v AZ (NED)* 0-4 (0-1), 0-5 on aggregate
(De Wit 34', Pavlidis 61', Lahdo 63', De Jong 81')
Tuzla had managed to keep the result close in the first leg, but they were less convinving at home (well, they had to play in Sarajevo). Dani de Wit headed in a mishit volley by the young Norwegian H|Nkon Evjen: https://gfycat.com/unfoldedappropriateamericanriverotter Greek forward Vangelis Pavlidis turned in De Wit's cross from close range, 19-year-old Swedish winger Mayckel Lahdo got the third by likewise turning in a Pavlidis cross and the similarly young Fedde de Jong in his first match for the senior team headed in a cross by the 18-year-old Hungarian Milos Kerkez: https://gfycat.com/HoarseFewDarklingbeetle
    SP Tre Fiori (SMR)* v B36 (FAR) 0-0 (0-0), 0-1 on aggregate
Best performance from a Sammarinese team by a mile, and perhaps ever, and they had their chances to level the tie, but in the end the Faroese managed to get the result they came for.
    FC DAC 1904 (SLK)* v V|!kingur (FAR) 2-0 (2-0), 4-0 on aggregate
    (Krstovi-c 26', Veselovsk|+ 34')
    V|!kingur's young keeper B|ir|#ur |i Reynatr|+|# was first beaten by Nikola Krstovi-c's
deflected shot: https://gfycat.com/NegligibleVigorousGoitered and then got a hand to Dominik Veselovsk|+'s effort, but couldn't keep it out: https://gfycat.com/UnhealthyMisguidedCatbird
Crusaders FC (NIR) v FC BASEL 1893 (SUI)* 1-1 (0-1), 1-3 on aggregate
    (Burns 53'; Millar 36')
Canadian striker Liam Millar scored with an excellent curling shot, but a very complacent Basel side deservedly conceded the equaliser and so gave the Northern
Irish at least a share of the coefficient points.
    Pusk|is Akad|-mia FC (HUN) v VIT|oRIA SC (POR)* 0-0 (0-0), 0-3 on aggregate
No shots on goal is no good if you want to make up a three-goal deficit.

    Viborg FF (DEN)* v B36 (FAR) 3-0 (1-0)
    (Jensen 21' (pen), Leemans 48', Ndione 52')
Making the best of the fortuitous draw before West Ham awaits. Jacob Jensen despatched a penalty awarded for this stunt by Marokhy 'Air' Ndione: https://gfycat.com/flawlessboilingasianporcupine Dutch midfielder Clint Leemans headed in a cross by former Brentford youngster Jan ++amb+>rek, and Ndione chipped
over B36 keeper Lamhauge from Ibrahim Said's through ball.
Riga FC (LAT) v Gil Vicente FC (POR)* 1-1 (1-0)
    (Douglas Aur|-lio 18'; Boselli 63')
Riga took a somewhat surprising but certainly not undeserved early lead when Pafos loanee Douglas Aur|-lio turned in a low cross by the indefatigable Finn Mikael Soisalo: https://gfycat.com/EvergreenImpartialAbyssiniangroundhornbill Gil Vicente got the equaliser thanks to a great volley by newly signed Uruguayan

Disappointing, of course, but WAC were the clearly better team and just didn't take their chances against the 10-man Maltese wall.
FC DAC 1904 (SLK) v FC FCSB (ROM)* 0-1 (0-0)
    (Tamm 69'; Red Card: Kru++liak (DAC) 68')
There was a bit of grandstanding before this one, as not-Steaua's notorious boss
    Gigi Becali's belligerent anti-Hungarian attitude clashed with Dunajsk|i Streda/
Dunaszerdahely's Orb|in-fuelled financial background, but the match itself was poor with few chances until DAC captain Dominik Kru++liak received his marching orders for a bone-headed last-man foul against Octavian Popescu, and FCSB's Estonian centre-half Joonas Tamm volleyed in the resulting free-kick by Montenegrin left-back Risto Radunovi-c: https://gfycat.com/AgedWillingLamprey August 4

FK RFS (LAT) v Hibernians FC (MLT) 1-1 (0-1)
    (Ili-c 85'; Vella 39'; Red Card: Thaylor (Hib) 26')
Despite two early yellows to their Angolan-Spanish right-back Thaylor the Maltese champions took the lead when Dunstan Vella volleyed in a free-kick by their captain Jurgen Degabriele that young Nigerian forward Yunusa Muritala had headed on: https://gfycat.com/breakabledimbobwhite The Latvians then saw a penalty by their Czech midfielder Petr Mare+i saved by Hibs' Guinean keeper Ibrahim Kon|-, but they still got the deserved equaliser when a long throw-in by Alfusainey Jatta - I've actually seen the young Gambian play in Regionalliga Salzburg two years ago - was headed on by the Serbian Stefan Pani-c and his young compatriot Andrej Ili-c rifled in: https://gfycat.com/delightfuleverydore A lot at stake here, since eventual play-off opponents Linfield are anything but
    unbeatable for either team.
FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk (BLR) v FC CFR Cluj (ROM) 0-0 (0-0)
Early in the game, and within three minutes, both sides hit the woodwork, but all in all it was another rather disappointing European match by the five-time repeat Romanian champions.
    KF Ballkani (KOS) v K|i (FAR) 3-2 (2-0)
    (Gripshi 30', Korenica 41', Rrahmani 50'; Klettskar|# 69', 88';
    Red Card: F|ar|+ 90'+2)
The fight to remain in the hunt for a first-ever European group phase remains wide open since the Faroese managed to claw their way back from a three-goal deficit. Albanian winger Nazmi Gripshi headed in Lumbardh Dellova's pin-point long ball for the opener and Meriton Korenica made it two by collecting Ermal Krasniqi's cross, dummying a Faroese defender, and volleying in. A terrible lost
ball in midfield led to Albion Rrahmani's third, but two set-pieces helped K|i to get back on track - P|ill Klettskar|# tapped in J||annes Bjartal|!|#'s free-kick,
and late on |Urni Frederiksberg's long free-kick was volleyed back across goal by K|i captain J|ikup Andreasen and Klettskar|# was on hand to slide over the line
with the ball. In the second minute of stoppage time, and chasing the equaliser,
the Faroese instead got caught on the counter, and to prevent what would have become a three-on-one break K|i centre-back Odmar F|ar|+ slid in from behind to bring down Edvin Ku-i. Kind of a red card you have to take.
    KF V|!kingur (ISL) v KKS Lech Pozna+a (POL) 1-0 (1-0)
    (Sigurp|ilsson 45')
V|!kingur just sold Kristall M|ini Ingason to Rosenborg, but even without their standout player the Icelanders managed to stun the Polish champions. 19-year-old
Ari Sigurp|ilsson scored the winner with a fine shot after a solo run: https://gfycat.com/selfassuredimmaterialleopard Lech's best chance to equalise after the break was a shot by Kristoffer Velde that skimmed the crossbar.
H+aK Zrinjski Mostar (BIH) v FC Tobol (KAZ) 1-0 (0-0)
    (Jankovi-c 76'; Red Cards: -aorluka (Zri) 55', Toma+ievi-c (Tob) 84')
The chance of a first ever European group phase is also still alive for Bosnia. Despite having been reduced to ten due to Josip -aorluka's second yellow they got
the winner through Niko Jankovi-c's perfect 'gol ol|!mpico": https://gfycat.com/NimbleAncientCommongonolek Late on Tobol's Montenegrin centre-back ++arko Toma+ievi-c talked himself into a second booking. Also, earlier
there had been a lovely dive by Nemanja Bilbija: https://gfycat.com/qualifiedembarrassedisabellinewheatear

KuPS (FIN) v BSC Young Boys (SUI)* 0-2 (0-2)
    (Nsame 25' (pen), Elia 40')
YB had fewer problems with the Finnish league leaders than they perhaps expected. Their attacking mainstay Jean-Pierre Nsame, back in Bern after an ill-
fated loan spell with Venezia, converted an early penalty (looked like a dive, to be honest), and his Congolese strike partner Meschak Elia danced past two defenders before unleashing a fierce strike past Kuopio's Austrian keeper Kreidl
    to make it two.
    FC Spartak Trnava (SLK) v RKS Rak||w Cz-Ostochowa (POL)* 0-2 (0-2)
    (Ivi 30', 45'+1 (pen))
It's already a difficult European season for the Polish teams, but Rak||w have been convincing so far. They were also lucky that on occasion of the first goal Ivi's offside position wasn't punished, and I also have my doubts as to whether the Spaniard really wanted to stroke the ball into the net like that: https://gfycat.com/shabbyhonoreddove There were no doubts about Martin Bukata's penalty foul on Mateusz Wdowiak though: https://gfycat.com/quarrelsomesandyantipodesgreenparakeet
Paide Linnameeskond (EST) v RSC Anderlecht (BEL)* 0-2 (0-2)
    (Refaelov 10', Silva 40')
Anderlecht didn't take long to score against the Estonian underdogs as Lior Refaelov slipped in between two defenders to tap in Francis Amuzu's cross: https://gfycat.com/zestyyellowboaconstrictor 20-year-old Wolverhampton loanee F|ibio Silva made it two from Refaelov's through ball. Paide at least managed to
defend well in the second half.

    AIK (SWE) v KF Shk|2ndija (MKD)* 1-1 (1-1)
    (Guidetti 17'; Hasani 1')
25 seconds in former Br|+ndby winger Ferhan Hasani intercepted Axel Bj||rnstr||m's
terrible pass and slotted past AIK keeper Nordfeldt to give Shk|2ndija a surprising lead: https://gfycat.com/saferelievedeuropeanfiresalamander It's been
ages since John Guidetti was one of Europe's hottest prospects, but the 30-year-
old, back in his home country after twelve years, was on hand to head in a cross
by AIK's indefatigable captain Seb Larsson: https://gfycat.com/illickygrosbeak Still, the North Macedonians deservedly managed to defend the away draw for the remaining seventy-five minutes.
Viking FK (NOR)* v Sligo Rovers FC (IRL) 5-1 (2-0)
    (Tripi-c 4', Fri|#j||nsson 8', Traor|- 53', Sandberg 60', Austb|+ 86';
    Cawley 89' (pen))
The Norwegian teams really are romping through these qualifiers at the moment. Just three minutes in Sligo keeper Luke McNicholas failed to hold on to a rather
harmless shot by 19-year-old forward Daniel Karlsbakk, and Viking's Bosnian- Norwegian captain Zlatko Tripi-c buried the rebound, and again just five minutes
later Icelandic midfielder Sam||el K|iri Fri|#j||nsson collected Tripi-c's cross and
dummied two defenders before rifling past McNicholas. Tripi-c also provided the assist for young Guinean forward Ma|> Traor|-'s tap-in, and Niklas Sandberg made
it four with a curled shot from just inside the box, and 17-year-old striker Edvin Austb|+ (born in 2005, to let that sink in) got his first goal for the senior team with a great shot from the edge of the area. A generous penalty at least gave Sligo a consolation goal.
Lillestr|+m SK (NOR) v Royal Antwerp FC (BEL)* 1-3 (1-1)
    (Knudsen 45'+3; Almeida 5', Nainggolan 50', 86')
OK, so not all Norwegian teams are romping through these qualifiers at the moment. Antwerp's Portuguese centre-back Dinis Almeida headed in a Miyoshi corner kick for the early opener, and while they conceded the equaliser just before half-time when Nainggolan needlessly lost the ball on the left wing and Kaan Kairinien centred for Magnus Knudsen to volley in, Nainggolan made amends in the second half - he was on hand to tap in Miyoshi's cross after Lillestr|+m's
Swedish defender Tom Petterson had played a bad pass right into the Japanese's legs, and five minutes from time he beat LSK keeper Christiansen with a trademark finish from the edge of the D.
    PFC CSKA-Sofia (BUL)* v St Patrick's Athletic FC (IRL) 0-1 (0-0)
    (Atakayi 87')
Both Sofia teams in the competitions have had a kind draw, but a harmless CSKA- side didn't capitalise on it and instead even gifted St Pat's the away win - young right-back Asen Donchev's back-pass header fell too short and Congolese- Finnish winger Serge Atakayi, seven years ago the youngest ever goal scorer in the Finnish Veikkausliiga (for Jaro!), pushed the ball past CSKA-'s Brazilian keeper Busatto: https://gfycat.com/organicunequaledafricanhornbill in what was the only shot on goal for the team currently placed fourth in the League of Ireland.
APOEL FC (CYP)* v FC Kyzylzhar SK (KAZ) 1-0 (1-0)
    (Efrem 27')
As stated before, Kyzylzhar are battling relegation in the Kazakh summer league,
but they came away with a creditable result from the scorching Cypriot heat even
though they didn't register a single shot themselves. Georgios Efrem got the only goal of the tie with a nice hooked volley: https://gfycat.com/regalcreamyjellyfish also because in the second half Kyzylzhar's Russian keeper Lobantsev pushed Marios Elia's shot against the post.
Maccabi Tel Aviv FC (ISR)* v Aris Thessaloniki FC (GRE) 2-0 (1-0)
    (Jovanovi-c 29', Zahavi 84')
A bad pass allowed Maccabi to catch the Greeks on the break and young Serbian striker -Eor-ae Jovanovi-c (just how many young Serbian striker are there around
these leagues?) slotted in Gabi Kanichowsky's perfectly timed assist: https://gfycat.com/defenselessselfreliantamberpenshell Late on Eran Zahavi, back in Israel after his largely successful stint with PSV, collected Stipe Perica's feed on the break and beat Aris's Spanish keeper Juli|in with a perfectly precise shot: https://gfycat.com/SilverGlitteringCottonmouth
    Molde FK (NOR)* v Kisv|irda FC (HUN) 3-0 (0-0)
    (Hussain 63', Fofana 81', Linnes 82')
It took a while until Molde made their superiority count against the Hungarian debutants, but the floodgates opened when Martin Linnes's quick thinking allowed
Etzaz Hussain to tap in from short range, albeit from an offside position: https://gfycat.com/creativeunevenarabianwildcat (one of those cases where a goalkeeper out of his net and a defender on the goal line fools the linesman) Ivorian youngster Datro Fofana made it two following an irresistible solo run: https://gfycat.com/ConcernedHollowAfricanfisheagle and Linnes capped off a man of the match performance by beating Kisv|irda's young Ukrainian keeper Odintsov with an angled shot from Emil Breivik's assist: https://gfycat.com/AdorableAgitatedHarpseal
Neft|oi PFK (AZE) v SK Rapid Wien (AUT)* 2-1 (1-0)
    (Jaber 44', Saief 60'; Burgstaller 90'+5)
Again a Rapid performance to forget - Ante Baji-c's shot against the crossbar was their only real opportunity for most of the match - and this time their opponents made them pay for it. Kevin Wimmer - who unfortunately has never fulfilled the too high expectations we had for him when Tottenham bought him from Cologne all those years ago - deflected a shot by Israeli midfielder Ataa Jaber past his keeper Niklas Hedl, and a comedy of errors in the Rapid defence allowed US boy Kenny Saief to score Neft|oi's second: https://gfycat.com/selfishinexperiencedemperorshrimp But Rapid's plot armour in Europe is still quite strong, and in the fifth minute of stoppage time youngster
    Ren|- Kriwak headed on a long ball, Neft|oi left-back Az+Or Salahl-# hit fresh air,
and Guido Burgstaller, back with Rapid after eight seasons abroad, got off a precise shot that beat Neft|oi's Croatian keeper Brki-c at his far post: https://gfycat.com/bigheartedadeptiridescentshark
SK Slavia Praha (CZE)* v Panathinaikos FC (GRE) 2-0 (1-0)
(Schranz 45'+2, Usor 56'; Red Cards: Palacios (Pan) 40',
Erak (Pan, assistant manager) 41', Santos (Sla) 52')
Things went pear-shaped for Pana when their Argentine winger Sebasti|in Palacios
received a controversial second booking for an apparent dive in the box: https://gfycat.com/confusedmeekbluebird Assistant manager Predrag Erak had to follow him into the locker rooms as well. In stoppage time of the first half Panathinaikos goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli denied Ond+Oej Lingr with a desperate last-gasp save, but on occasion of the ensuing corner kick the former Benevento and Empoli keeper didn't exactly cover himself in glory which allowed Ivan Schranz to volley in at the second attempt: https://gfycat.com/InsignificantFabulousBoilweevil Slavia then also saw a player
sent off when their Brazilian centre-back Eduardo Santos tore down Andra++ +aporar
as last man, but it didn't really matter as soon after the young Nigerian substitute Moses Usor (not to be confused with his teammate and compatriot Yira Sor) buried the rebound after Ewerton's shot had come off the right post: https://gfycat.com/TangibleImmediateBilby
There's a distinct chance now that Greece won't have any teams in the group stages whatsoever. Terrible European season for them so far.
FC Zorya Luhansk (UKR)* v CS Universitatea Craiova (ROM) 1-0 (0-0)
    (Nahnoynyi 56')
This was played in Lublin in Poland. The Ukrainians got the deserved winner when
20-year-old forward Denys Nahnoynyi scored his first goal for the senior team by
heading in Vyacheslav Churko's corner kick.
FC Lugano (SUI) v Hapoel Be'er Sheva FC (ISR)* 0-2 (0-1)
    (Yosefi 39', Selmani 85')
It's not exactly been a great European season for Switzerland so far either. Lugano had their chances, but the Israeli scored the goals - Tomer Yosefi headed
in a cross by Ghanaian winger Eugene Ansah: https://gfycat.com/nippyleafyamericanshorthair and late on former Hammarby striker Astrit Selmani was left all alone to fire in a loose ball after the Lugano defence had failed to cut out Rotem Hatuel's cross: https://gfycat.com/DirtyBarrenFlatfish
-aamrun Spartans FC (MLT) v PFC Levski Sofia (BUL)* 0-1 (0-0)
    (Krastev 90'+5)
Levski did a better job of capitalising on the draw than their city rivals, but since youngster Filip Krastev saw his early penalty saved by Spartans keeper Bonello they had to wait until deep in stoppage time for the breakthrough, and it was Krastev who made amends when following a lucky bounce he collected the loose ball and dummied two Spartans defenders before firing in: https://gfycat.com/remotedeliciouskakapo
    FK -iukari-iki (SRB) v FC Twente (NED)* 1-3 (0-3)
    (Kova-i 59'; Rots 8', Vlap 31', Brenet 43')
Twente's return to Europe after eight seasons was crowned with success as youngster Dan Rots early on headed in Virgil 'Vura' Misidjan's corner kick, Michel Vlap likewise slotted in a Vura cross, and Joshua Brenet chipped Ricky van Wolfswinkel's through ball over -iukari-iki keeper Mi-covi-c. The Serbians at
least got a consolation goal when Luka Ad++i-c centred for the young Bosnian Stefan Kova-i.
FC Vaduz (LIE) v Konyaspor (TUR)* 1-1 (0-0)
    (Sasere 72'; Demir 88')
While Lugano and Basel both lost their matches, Vaduz, who are playing in the Swiss second division (and not too successfully at the moment, as they are still
winless this season) got a creditable draw against last season's third-best Turkish team. They could even have come away with the win after Franklin Sasere had headed in Dario Ulrich's cross: https://gfycat.com/sentimentalquarrelsomekingbird but two minutes from time Vaduz keeper Benjamin B|+chel failed to hold on to Amir Had++iahmetovi-c's shot and
Muhammet Demir bundled the rebound over the line (probably - no GLT in the Conference League): https://gfycat.com/splendidspryjenny
    ACS Sepsi OSK Sf|ontu Gheorghe (ROM) v Djurg|Nrdens IF (SWE)* 1-3 (0-2) (Tudorie 79' (pen); Edvardsen 26' (pen), Asoro 31', 54')
Djurg|Nrden took a first-half two-goal lead in Sz|-kelyf||ld thanks to Victor Edvardsen's penalty and Joel Asoro turning in Piotr Johansson's headed cross: https://gfycat.com/metallicsoftkinglet Asoro also beat Sepsi keeper Roland Niczuly with a low shot into the far corner: https://gfycat.com/sphericalpartialbobwhite A late penalty gave the Hungarian Romanians a consolation goal.
    Br|+ndby IF (DEN) v FC Basel 1893 (SUI)* 1-0 (0-0)
    (Divkovi-c 74')
A hard-fought and even match was decided by a quick break after Brighton loanee Andi Zeqiri had lost the ball in midfield and Croatian winger Marko Divkovi-c beat Basel keeper Marwin Hitz, newly back in his home country, with a little luck: https://gfycat.com/gregariousserenefireant The Swiss deplored, not without
reason, that they were denied a legitimate penalty in stoppage time. Brei|#ablik (ISL) v -#stanbul Ba+fak+fehir FK (TUR)* 1-3 (0-1)
    (Einarsson 63'; Aleksi-c 38', 90'+2, T|+r|+|o 52')
Serbian striker Danijel Aleksi-c (for once, an old one) swept in a cross by Ba+fak+fehir's new French signing Mounir Chouiar for the opener. Chouiar also provided the fine assist for Deniz T|+r|+|o who stole in at the far post to steer
the ball in. Viktor Karl Einarsson gave the Icelanders a little hope when he beat Ba+fak+fehir keeper Volkan Babacan with a shot from the edge of the area through a forest of legs, but deep in stoppage time Aleksi-c all but decided the
tie when he volleyed in Hasan Ali Kald-#r-#m's low cross.
    Feh|-rv|ir FC (HUN)* v FC Petrocub H|<nce+Oti (MDA) 5-0 (3-0)
(Dardai 20', Kodro 23' (pen), Stopira 35', Petryak 66', Zivzivadze 88' (pen)) After having managed to survive two rounds in Europe for the first time in their history, it's the end of the line for the Moldovans. P|il Dardai's
son P|ilko punished comical defending by Petrocub centre-back Victor Mudrac: https://gfycat.com/skeletalindolentkingsnake Kenan Kodro converted a penalty, Cape Verdean veteran Stopira in his tenth year with the Hungarians headed in a corner kick, Ukrainian midfielder Ivan Petryak buried a cross by the young Nigerian Funsho Bamgboye from short range, and Georgian striker Budu Zivzivadze also got one from the spot.
HNK Hajduk Split (CRO) v Vit||ria SC (POR)* 3-1 (0-0)
    (Sahiti 67', Melnjak 75', Krovinovi-c 87'; Miguel Maga 61')
Hajduk have had a nightmare draw (after Guimar|ues there would be Villarreal waiting) but despite falling behind to 19-year-old right-back Miguel Maga's fabulous shot from distance they managed to make the first step and overcome the
Portuguese with three well-taken goals, the last one a rocket by former WBA midfielder Filip Krovinovi-c: https://gfycat.com/brokenancientinexpectatumpleco Dundee United FC (SCO) v AZ (NED)* 1-0 (0-0)
    (Middleton 61')
Scottish teams that are not from Glasgow have had their difficulties in Europe, to put it mildly, but Dundee United claimed a considerable Dutch scalp in their return to Europe after ten years. Glenn Middleton emphatically buried Jamie McGrath's feed for the winner: https://gfycat.com/recklesseminentamericanalligator
