• Huddersfield Town - Nottingham Forest EFL Championship Playoff Final [R

    From Real Mardin@24:150/2 to rec.sport.soccer on Sun May 29 08:27:57 2022
Some call it "the richest game in football" others "the -u170m game", but in just over 5 minutes Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest play each other at Wembley for a place in the Premier League.
I have watched Nottingham Forest for the last 18 years, in my time they've never been in the Premier League. Huddersfield, despite not having two European Cups to their name, have been in the Premier League more recently.
The teams traded wins in the league this season, with Forest knocking Huddersfield out of the FA Cup.
Let's see what the game brings.

So is this game bigger than York United vs Cavalry?
Being an even year, I think it means Huddersfield is promoted, Norwich get promoted on the odd numbered years.
If Nottingham Forrest is such a small provincial team ( or however they are defined) how did they afford Trevor Francis, it was back in the time of not crazy money and non foreign ownership as well.
I was kinda thinking this would be a nice football free day and I would just catch up on Better call Saul and sleep off three days of excess, drive around in the boat or lawnmower, weed the garden, fun stuff like that, but no, the football never ends. It all starts up again on Wednesday again with the nations liga, hell I could watch the toulon Tournament inbetween if I wanted

It looks to me like a lot more red shirts of Forest than Huddersfield shirts in the crowd. Regardless, they will be happier at the halftime. 1-0 ahead and 45 minutes away from the land of riches.

Well not to York United fans it isn't!

Yeah, the allocations were equal at appx 36000 each, are there more Forest fans or does it just look that way because red is more noticeable than blue and white stripes? Not sure.
One thing I'm slightly narked about is that despite having watched Forest matches for 18 years I was ineligible to apply for a ticket before they sold out (didn't go this season) but there seem to be enough empty seats for a so called "sold out" match. Probably held by corporates who couldn't be bothered to attend the game. Got to love "the people's game"!
Forest dominated possession without looking threatening, Huddersfield looked quite comfortable sitting back and counter attacking. Then before half time a direct ball into the box from Garner, in real time it looked like Yates flicked it past the keeper but the replay showed Levi Colwill knocked it past the keeper for an own goal when he tried to challenge Yates. So a somewhat fortunate lead but probably justified given we've had 68% possession.

Second half has been all Huddersfield, can Forest hold on?

Looks like Forest just got away with a penalty that should have been given to Huddersfield, Colback seemed to trip the attacker who admittedly over sold the foul, but not given despite a VAR review.

It is the kinda non call that makes you think the match has been fixed. To make it worse, he was given a yellow for diving

Based on the 2nd half, Hudderstown at least deserved that Penalty kick, but no, Forest are back in the 1st div. after 25 years. I think it looked like a lot more Forest fans due to the seats being red in colour.

    23 years, yeah.
Strange game, seemed like one big attack v defence drill, Forest attacking in the first half and Huddersfield attacking in the second half. We won with an own goal and Huddersfield should have had at least one penalty, perhaps two.
If I've ever given mixed messages about my views on the Premier League before, I want to be clear that the Premier League is the best league in the World. Money in football is good, -u76m transfer fees are good, -u70 for a home shirt is good, -u40+ for a match ticket is good, billionaire owners are good! This is best league in the World and now Nottingham Forest are a part of it!
For the first time in a very long time I actually have an interest to take an interest in the Premier League. See you all for Premier League fantasy EPL next season?
