• Bundesliga.2 Super Saturday

    From Binder Dundat@24:150/2 to rec.sport.soccer on Thu Apr 21 07:16:49 2022
In a couple of days time, we will know exactly how the 2nd div will end.. OK, OK, it will tell us absolutely nothing as far as who can mathematically still get promoted, but it will tell us who SHOULD get promoted.
    1 FC Schalke 04 (A) 30 17 5 8 64:36 28 56
    2 Werder Bremen (A) 30 15 9 6 54:39 15 54
    3 FC St. Pauli 30 15 8 7 55:40 15 53
    4 SV Darmstadt 98 30 15 6 9 59:43 16 51
    5 1. FC N|+rnberg 30 14 8 8 45:39 6 50
    6 Hamburger SV 30 12 12 6 54:30 24 48 Schalke v Werder at 1:30
St Pauli v Darmstadt at 20:30
Somewhere in between that is the Bayern vs BVB match and that will tell us if Bayern's reign of terror is finally over or whether Dortmund are Pretenders or actually going to amount to a title threat in the future. Bayern can mathematically have the title won on Saturday, but the reality is they have already won the title, so if Dortmund cant beat them now, they will officially become the New Pretenders ( from what I read Haaland is going to Man City and this is going to sound weird, with him scoring 18 goals in 20 games, but I think he has been a disappointment this season and BVB should sell while he is still a hot commodity).
But back to real football. You are probably wondering what kind of record these teams have against each other. Well, in the second division they have a record of 1 draw, a 1-1 draw earlier this season. But you are thinking they must have played each other 100s of times in the first division and cups and what not. They have played each other a combined total of 118 times and they have each won 47 games with 24 tie games. Wow, you are saying, that is really close, like it just could not be any closer and you would be correct, but then what about goals scored in all those matches? This is where the clear advantage can be seen, Werder has scored a whopping 169 goals, while the Miners have a meagre 166, so yeah as close as you like and a 1-1 draw would suit everyone.
Meanwhile, Hamburg's best team or Darmstadt could be the real winner if that game does indeed end a draw. If either Darmstadt or St Pauli do get promoted it would be the third time for either team. SO, you are wondering what is their head to head record like? They have never played each other in the 1st div and surprisingly only 19 times in the 2nd div and it is advantage Darmstadt with 10 wins to St Pauli's 6th win. Darmstadt won the game back in November 4-0.
So there you have it, all those questions you have been asking yourself are all answered before the big Super Saturday Spectacular.

Werder with a convincing 4-1 win and retake the top of the table, 3 games, left one vs Aue, they have to get enough points for direct promotion. So yeah, we are projecting Bremen as finishing 1st or 2nd and direct promotion.
HSV also won, so they may get in to the playoff spot. A Bremen-Schalke-HSV 1-2-3 would be what everyone predicted months ago and might just happen

Anyhow Fabulous Friday in the 2nd division and a Werder win coupled with a St Pauli loss almost assures Werder promotion, well play off for promotion, well almost if HSV does not win on " Spoiler Saturday". Of course if none of that happens, we will have to change Fabulous Friday in to some F word that means screwed or something, if we can find such a word. Could be another Super Saturday as well, with the right results, maybe not Super like getting promoted, but Special Saturday or so-so Saturday, of course if the results do not come out, would have to find and S word for something like crap .

I kinda dont understand the post from Mark about can someone be this year's Kaiserslautern, this year's Kaiserslautern means promotion to me. Unless it was reference to the team that got promoted and then won the 1st div that 1st season, but that would not be "this year's".

I assume he was making reference to the "this year's Leicester" thread
that has been going on for a while. The title of that thread derived
from Leicester's very surprising run in 2016 - going from almost
relegated to champions. So who was going to accomplish a similar feat
    and become "this year's leicester".

Since Mark likes to ignore the EPL, I assume he wanted to use an example
from another league, and thus was referring to Kaiserslautern's surprise league win in 1998, the year after promotion. Was that a bigger
surprise than Leicester ? Some would say no, since the Bundesliga was
more hotly contested in those days, and since Lautern were cup winners
in 1996, and were pretty unfortunate to be relegated that year (36
points, - 6 goal difference -18 draws was their problem. With a
rational points system (2 for win, 1 for a draw) they would have been
avoided relegation). They also kept a strong nucleus of players and won immediate promotion back up.

course if none of that happens, we will have to change Fabulous Friday in to some F word that means screwed or something, if we can find such a word.
    Did you find one?
The reality is, would/will Bremen even be able to compete with teams like Union or Freiburg or Augsburg, maybe it is better if they stay in div 2. Who sez teams like HSV and Werder have to be in the 1st div, who even likes the 1st div anyway, with bayern and their evil reign of never ending terror!

    Ciao,
    Werner

Quite a Friday is was. Schalke with a late (90) winner in Sandhausen,

    Regionalliga:
South-West: Elversberg promoted unless they somehow lose a 19 goals GD
    lead in the last round.
Elversberg and former 2. Liga club FSV Frankfurt have come under some criticism because
they played a Gij||n-like 1-1 draw that saw the former promoted and the latter saved.
Elversberg (near Saarbr|+cken) back in 3. Liga for the second time in their history (after 2013/14).
Twice they missed out in the promotion play-off. They are kind of a Hoffenheim lite, with the
main sponsor (a pharmaceutical company) being led by a former player.
Bayern: Bayreuth 5 points up with 2 games to go.
Bayreuth last played in professional football in 1989/90 (2. Liga).
Eleven years ago in 2011/12, they were still in the sixth league.
West: RW Essen and M|+nster going into the final round even on
points. RWE 2 goals ahead on GD. Rocking.
Essen also way ahead on goals scored, so basically three goals ahead.
Preu|fen M|+nster had it in the bag until a scoreless draw in this second-to-last round.
RWE were leading through large parts of the season until a string of draws made it appear
as if they had thrown promotion away just like last year (against Dortmund II). Essen play at home against Ahlen, M|+nster at home against K||ln II. None of their opponents
    has anything to play for.
North: VfB Oldenburg 6 points and 11 goals ahead of Weiche
Flensburg. One match left for Oldenburg, 2 for Weiche.
Oldenburg last played in 2. Bundesliga in 1996/97, then, following a familiar pattern,
quickly fell through the ranks due to financial problems. Stabilized in the fifth league,
and ten years in Regionalliga have now been crowned with success.
North-East: Dynamo Berlin 3 points and 12 goals ahead of Jena. One
    match to go.
A... problematic club. Most hated team in the former GDR (due to having been Mielke's
favoured Stasi team, and correspondent refereeing), extreme right-wing fanbase and problems
    with hooliganism since the 90's.
But they're the only German club apart from Bayern to have won double-digit league titles, and
carry a star on their shirts.
Last two winners will have to playoff for promotion.
    Still, go Oldenburg!

    Regionalliga:
South-West: Elversberg promoted unless they somehow lose a 19 goals GD
    lead in the last round.

Elversberg and former 2. Liga club FSV Frankfurt have come under some criticism because
they played a Gij<n-like 1-1 draw that saw the former promoted and the latter saved.

Elversberg won in the final round, and is officially promoted.

FSV Frankfurt escaped relegation on GD, so that point was crucial.
Former 3. Liga side Sonnenhof Gro#aspach relegated.

Bayern: Bayreuth 5 points up with 2 games to go.

    Promoted.

West: RW Essen and Mnnster going into the final round even on
points. RWE 2 goals ahead on GD. Rocking.

Essen also way ahead on goals scored, so basically three goals ahead.

Both won their final match. Essen by 2 and Mnnster by 1. Was was
already at 2-0 when Mnnster went ahead in their match, so it never
    really got close.

5 teams relegated from this division. Among them, Lotte and
Uerdingen. Also Bonn, so Bundesliga representation for the former
    capital isn't happening anytime soon.

It's a shame, because they actually played a versy good season. 85

Super Sunday is so super that we are reporting sightings of Felix in Darmstadt. Which is kinda interesting, Felix knows everything there is to know about football, so that must mean that Darmstadt will get third place. Unless...
Werder Bremen loses vs Jahn Regensburg and HSV wins vs Rostock and Darmstadt wins vs Paderborn. Err no that would mean third for Darmstadt as well. It is all very complicated, even though only results from three games are important. Werder need a point to control their own destiny, but could lose and still be second place or third. Just far too many permutations and combinations for these three matches. What we will find out is if HSV have the Maple Leaf curse, which always happens when the Maple tress go into bloom, something cursed about the leaves of the Maple, even if they do produce that sweet Maple syrup the world loves.

No, maple syrup is not produced from the leaves of the Maple tree, it is produced from the sap of the tree. From what I understand you need warm days and cold nights below zero, to produce maple sap. Long past that here, been hot here, 30s during the day and far from freezing at night.

Felix went to the wrong place. In the end HSV get the third spot and one might say everything predicted at the start of the season, actually happened. I am not convinced HSV will beat Hertha, but you can never tell. Is the 2nd div good this year, are the 1st div bottom dwellers any good? Time to be a daydrink believer.

Darmstadt quickly got a goal against Padborn, was up 3-0 at the break,
and cruised to a safe win. HSV on the other hand, was a goal down in
Rostock inside 15 minutes. At that point it looked like typical HSV.
    1-1 at '50, 1-2 at '75, 1-3 at '85. Rostock got the 2-3 in added time,
just to test HSV's nerves, but surprisingly HSV held on.

HSV goes into the relegation with 5 straight wins, after just a single
win in the previous 7 matches.

Bielefeld and Fnrth have 680 Bundesliga matches between team (that's
90% Bielefeld), their replacements have 3732.

A... problematic club.

Oldenburg won 2-0 away in Berlin and today lost 1-2 (to a last-second goal) at home, so are through, thankfully.
