• Venezuela will become a football superpower

As Russia becomes less able to sell oil due to sanctions, this could be an opportunity for Venezuela. I read today that they've got the most oil reserves in the world. Apparently they're not even in the top 10 biggest oil producers in the world though.

So this could be their opportunity to start producing more oil and grab a bigger market share, to fill the gap in the market vacated by Russia.

And as the Venezuelan economy improves, their football clubs can afford to pay better wages and attract better players and coaches etc.

OK, perhaps not. It could be an opportunity for Venezuela to improve it's economy at least a bit though. And I thought it possibly made for an interesting theory.

How likely do yous think it is to work out that way in practice?

Deportivo Tachira for the 2032 Copa Libertadores?

Does your forum still exist? And if so, what's the url?
Anyway, I'm a bit surprised nobody's said this is unlikely. Is it actually more likely than I thought?
If it does work out this way, don't forget you read it here first, predicted by me.
And yes it would be interesting to hear what Juan Vasquez thinks about it.

It would appear not. Seems the company who hosted the forum don't exist anymore. It was news to me!
The last time I looked it up the first message after many years of inactivity was from one Ben Smith (yes *THE* Ben Smith!) wishing me well.
Unfortunately I got to his message about five years after he sent it, which kind of sums things up.
The forum was fun for a while, I started it because at the time there was a ridiculous amount of not safe for work / family spam on rss which was making accessing via Google Groups quite unbearable. Thankfully the spam is much less now.

I doubt it. In the fifties and sixties we had a good economical situation and a Pequena Copa del Mundo (international tournament) with Real Madrid, Milan, Benfica, etc. and the local clubs paid good wages, but not enough to attract the best Southamerican players.
As only old (not so famous) Southamericans came to play, they called the local Liga the cemetery of football players.
We did have Jairzinho, though. In 1977, at 33, he came for 24 matches and scored 22 goals with Portuguesa FC.
