This begs the question: how many documented meetings between rss'ers have there been?
I did a quick search using key words on google groups and could find two documented meetings (I won't mention names as those involved may not want their business reciting online, if they want to step forward and say who they are of course they're welcome to). I'm also confident I read that once upon a time two rss'ers met at a Liverpool match, although I couldn't find the thread referring to that meeting.
Given dwindling membership spread out across the World one would think meetings would be few and far between. That said, we have a number of North America based contributors and one wonders whether World Cup 2026 might provide the opportunity for further meetings of rss'ers?

I think I have met 6 RSSers in real life in my almost 30 years here:
    - Massa and Irineu in the 1990s, when we were all students in the Boston area and would sometimes get together to watch Serie A matches in the North End.
    - milivella in NYC a couple of years ago (with significant others!)
    - Jackson in NYC on that same weekend, but it was just a fleeting hello, we didn't really hang out together
    - David Kaiser, who I met up with to watch a USA WC match in WC2014 (?) in a crowded pub
    - The guy behind Soccer Analysis (http://www.socanalysis.com/) who I met once at a meetup around the Sloan Sports Analytics conference (long after he had left RSS)

    1. Not really an Albertan. Born in Scotland, lived in WInnipeg and Nova Scotia during formative years. Do not own jeans, a stetson, cowboy boots
    or a truck.

    2. Not at all for the protesters, though if they bring about Kenney's
demise, replacing him with someone even stupider and less competent,
there may be a silver lining to all this.

    Irrational because:

    A) 90 % of truckers are vaccinated

    B) both US and Canada currently require vaccination or quarantine for
    truckers crossing border

    C) Most of what they are protesting falls under provincial jurisdiction,
    not federal

    D) some of them seem to think their tantrum is enough to overturn the
result of an election held less than six months ago, which provided a
result nearly identical to the election 2 years before that.

Now I would gladly see the back of hypocrite Trudeau, and am all in
favour of electoral reform (like MMP), but there is no way that the CPC
or the protestors can pretend the majority of Canadians are on their side.

I am surprised that they hate Trudeau so much, I mean cmon, he legalized weed, which is the only reason I voted for him. And honestly and I am not a liberal, I thought he handled this covid thing relatively well.

In many ways he did. Certainly the feds had people's backs much more
than our province did. And Anita Anand (whom I actually know from NS
days - her dad was a colleague of my dad's) did a good job in procuring
    the vaccines.

But Trudeau, for all his alleged "wokeness" has just made too many
gaffes and I have never forgiven him for promising electoral reform in
2015, then not delivering at all. I kinda liked Mulcair, and Elizabeth
may, but this last election we had no leaders to vote for with any
    gravitas or credibility.

for the record I vote Green, which in canada is a wasted vote

I voted Green last time too. It was clear the the Conservative
candidate was going to win easily this time (it was close in 2015,
though) so any vote was a wasted vote, and the Green candidate had done
a lot of good work on preventing parks from being privatized and
stopping new strip mining of coal on the eastern slopes.

This begs the question: how many documented meetings between rss'ers have there been?

I met Mark Vanderwen at a pub in NYC circa 2011. We watched an EPL game together, forget who played.

I also met Jussi Uosukainen in NYC in 2019. We grabbed dinner at an Italian restaurant.

Futbolmetrix and I also found out after the fact that we were at the same game around 2012/13. It was a Liverpool-Roma friendly in Boston.

Heartwarming to hear how many rss'er meetings there have been, although most of them seem to be USA based. Even allowing for that there seem to be more meetings than I would have thought.

So how many UEFA based rss'ers are left (currently active)?

    I'd wager a guess:

    Myself

    Anders

Bruce (although supports a CONCACAF nation)

    Jesper

    Vedran

    Werner

    Maybes:

    Millivella

    Ixion Martin

    Blueshirt (??)

These were much more common in the 1990s... I met Gustaaf van
Moorsel, Simon Gleave ('Shaggy') and Karel Stokkermans during that
time. Of course, Jesper and I and Stefan (who used to also post here)
have seen FCB matches together for many years.

In the Covid era of course there is less travel. In Europe, these
were much easier before (1) the dot-com crash ca 2000 and (2) the
introduction of the Euro in 2002 +/- which led to both trains and
small pension/hotels becoming much more expensive here.

If you want documentation, we used to do that in d.r.s.f, the German
newsgroup. The last meeting from that which I attended was a grill
    party in Koeln.

Given dwindling membership spread out across the World one would
think meetings would be few and far between. That said, we have a
number of North America based contributors and one wonders whether
World Cup 2026 might provide the opportunity for further meetings of
    rss'ers?

That would be great. I will keep it in mind. I've never had much
luck with WC tickets though (except 2 matches in 2006).

All right MH, where and when do you want to meet?

You should have came up in November to Edmonton.

This begs the question: how many documented meetings between rss'ers have there been?

I met Mark Vanderwen at a pub in NYC circa 2011. We watched an EPL game together, forget who played.
Did Mark have as good a sense of humour in person as he showed online? He always seemed a good laugh on here. Shame he doesn't post anymore, hope he's doing ok.
He was a little more understated in person, as opposed to his online persona. But I'd guess that's true for a lot of us. A perfect gentleman. Seems to have gone off social media as well so no idea where he is, but he did pop his head in here a year or two back, which was a pleasant surprise.

    I met:

    1. Tom in Catania. We played a match (Vella & Friends vs. Rest of the
World) and watched a match (Catania vs. Milan).

    2. Daniele in New York. He refused my table football challenge (no doubt because he was scared to a great degree).

    3. Jackson in New York. We kicked the ball in Central Park.

    4. Werner in Salzburg. He showed me where the villa of the Red Bull guy is.

Are you SURE you met Jackson?! Or is this a memory failure---typical
    sign of getting SENILE?

    Real Mardin:

Heartwarming to hear how many rss'er meetings there have been, although most of them seem to be USA based. Even allowing for that there seem to be more meetings than I would have thought.

So how many UEFA based rss'ers are left (currently active)?

    I'd wager a guess:

    Maybes:

    Millivella

    UEFA-based: 100%.
    Currently active: you decide.

Nothing to do with Salzburg, but definitely an Austrian angle to my anecdote here.
Christian Fuchs and Mrs. Fuchs have owned a condo in upper Manhattan for many years. It turns out that it's in the same building that a lady friend of mine lives in, and that lady friend has become good friends with Mrs. Fuchs. I have asked my friend a few times if she will broker a cocktail between Mr. Fuchs and me, and she keeps declining me on the grounds that Mr. Fuchs was mostly away playing in the EPL for many years so she never really got to know him. I think it's her polite way so saying that she's not really interested in being a middlewoman here. But I will keep trying.
