I saw that and was mildly shocked-Italy has curling rinks????? I am kinda surprised anyone outside of Scotland or Canada has curling rinks.

Canadian Curling has become too big and glitzy and glamorous, their all big tv stars now doing Paper towel and doughnut adverts, not concentrating on the game anymore.
Kanada will be in Qatar though and wont lose 3 games and out this time.

Mixed doubles ? First time I have even heard of it.
Both our Men's and Women's teams are led by former gold medalists.
Neither of whom qualified for subsequent tournaments. Curling is tough
    here.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the uncontrolled proliferation of Olympic events, which is just a way to distribute more medals to the big nations. Relay races in particular are completely pointless: maybe there is some Jamaican cross-country skier who is really phenomenal and can compete for the medals, but there is no way that the Jamaican cross-country realy team can compete with the Norwegians. (The only exception to this is the 4x100 track relay, where teamwork and specialization actually matter a lot).
As for curling, why is it even gender segregated? (The Italian dude, who is also participating in the men's team event, said that at least there he won't have to do all the sweeping. I don't know enough about curling to assess the importance of sweeping fast, but it seems a pretty secondary skill in comparison to the throwing the stones accurately)

In even bigger news, Lindsay Jacobellis (she of the Torino Olympics
"fame") came back after winning practically everything else over the
years to win her gold medal at age 36! Won both the semi and the
    Final.

Being forced inside due to the trucker convoy of freedom (there really are people afraid to go outside, I am back in town and went to walk around on the weekend it was kinda nice, kinda winter carnival party atmosphere like) all I can do is watch Olympics and eat bonbons. So like Grandpa Simpson, let me complain about the sports that dont belong in the Winter Olympics.
All snowboarding events, except maybe the actual racing one v one event, I think some even have 4 racing at the same time, though it is kinda unfair in as much that is each side of the course equal? It would be almost impossible to make them 100% the same, one side will be somewhat better and faster. But yeah, like figure skating, all the other snow boarding events are all about giving points in some way which is at the discretion of so called judges. If they did something like longest or highest jumping, I would be OK with that, but I just dont like those kinda events which give out points on artistic impression. Also, I am one of those old people who dont like snowboarders on my ski hill. I am better now, I use to really hate them and try and run them off the hill into trees and chair lift posts when I was skiing, but now I just try and bang into them and knock them down. Kinda like when a little kid passes you when skiing, you want to catch up and chop that little bastard down. I gotta stop skiing, getting to old for that kinda stuff.
Short track speed skating, this is where I dont want to see an actual race, which contradicts what I said above, it is just too much like WWE, roller derby racing, it is all about running the other guys off the track or knocking them down, which is fine if you are a leisurely skier getting rid of snow boarders, but not as an olympic event. They should just send one or two people out and do it based on times.
Curling, it is not even a sport, what is next, darts or snooker or baseball? Freestyle skiing, like snowboarding and figure skating, it does not have a "real winner" like the person, who was the fastest or jumped the highest or furthest. You need a quantitative winner, like scoring more goals or baskets or points or whatever. What would it be like if you had football matches in the olympics, but the winner was not the team that scored the most, but the team that did the most pirouettes or back kicks.
A lot of people dont consider biathlon a true sport, I could not disagree more. You have to ski the fastest and then on top of that hit the most targets, while tired, then go back to the race. it could not be more of a sport!
So yeah, like right now, it is all the kinda the events I dont like and dont get me wrong, they all take skill and athletic ability, they just dont have a satisfactory winner for me or the event is kinda helter skelter roller derby/WWE on ice.

And that just proves my post below, not a real sport, typical american propaganda event. Not an event nor bigger news than the non event called mixed curling. What is next, mixed football matches????

Stefania was great, but it appears to me as if Mr Lily White, or at least one of the Ottawa truckers, is playing
for the US men's team, and he takes the great.

And I've always maintained that the American way of assembling the medal table is best:

(It's funny how quickly all the more unsavoury elements of these Olympics have been forgotten.
    Ain't sports great?)

We don't win anything in Curling (except a sensational one-off), so
it's just a Canuck sport (well, the Scottish...)

Now, snowboarding and figure skating are real. Definitely.
