• Portland Thorns's midfield has fallen apart

    From Mark@24:150/2 to rec.sport.soccer on Sun Jan 30 09:32:18 2022
About 5 years ago Portland had possibly the best midfield in women's football in the whole world. Then Allie Long left, Amandine Henry left, then Tobin Heath left; and now the final player in that great midfield has gone! Lyndsey Horan has gone on loan to Lyon until June 2023.
Why? How are Portland going to win the NWSL Championship now, when they're letting all their best midfielders leave?

Seems sad... time to grow some more young players, then.
I think our league needs to step up to keep up with some of the
very rapid progress going on in Europe (France, Spain).

Everybody complains about the Club World Cup, but a Women's Club World Cup would be super intriguing. To be honest, not really a World Cup, but a competition pitting the best of the NWSL versus the best of UEFA

What do you do with all the players who basically play for two teams,
one in each, due to the scheduling?

    It's a possibility for the future: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Women%27s_Club_World_Cup
