Would (will ?) be so sad to see the greatest current track, Spa,
abandoned. And all with the purpose of bringing in venues that are
    basically little more than gimmicks.

It does sound like they're prepared to repeat the mistakes of NASCAR where a number of traditional tracks (mainly in the South) were ditched in favor of tracks closer to large cities. In doing so, they also abandoned a large portion of their most reliable fan base.

Won't miss the french track, but loosing Spa is horrible.

Bewildering that they mandate ever larger cars and put them on street
circuits more suited to go carts but then to ditch what they know is
one of the most popular tracks amongst fans is to say they are happy to
ditch the old fans and go looking for a different audience... and just
as it is looking like they may be heading in the right direction and re-engaging long time fans as well as attracting a new following.
