• Persuaders opening titles - which motor race is in this video?

    From Mr Gobrien@24:150/2 to rec.autos.sport.f1 on Wed May 18 14:12:41 2022

Can anyone say in the Persuaders opening titles which motor race it is?

    Just 0:33 to 0.37 here but 6 cars go through - www.facebook.com/watch/?v=800128343675265

The track looks like Brands Hatch (the run from the start line down to Paddock Hill bend) but maybe not.

The 2nd driver is presumably Swiss from his helmet. I think STP (on his rear wing) sponsored the Shadow team at some point in the1970's but their cars were always black not red?

The 3rd car looks like Graham Hill with a rear wing with Brooke Bond on it (the Lotus 72?)

1970 British GP at Brands Hatch. First two cars are Ronnie Peterson
(Colin Crabbe Racing March 701) and Jo Siffert (March Engineering March
701); next is Graham Hill in the Brooke Bond Oxo Racing/Rob Walker Lotus
    49C. Pedro Rodriguez in the Yardley BRM P153 can be seen at far left;
Dan Gurney in a McLaren M14A at the far right.

I donrCOt regard an interest in, and knowledge of, F1 history as being rCLgeekyrCY.

I canrCOt watch the clip because itrCOs on Facebook, but I *was* at the race (and well remember the long argument between Colin Chapman and the Chief Scrutineer in the paddock afterwards).

Didn't take much - the OP's speculations were enough to make the first
race I looked up on Forix correct, after which it was mostly a matter of matching numbers.

BTW this was Dan Gurney's last F1 race.

To me, that level of interest is what defines "geekyness". In fact, it
is right there in the definition:

    'geek1 | +i-ok | informal

    noun

1 [usually with modifier] a person who is knowledgeable about and
obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest: a computer geek | Jim is
an unashamed tech geek | I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to historical events.'

But also remember: there's nothing wrong with geekyness!

Like a lot of words, it can be used (or taken) in a derogatory manner...

...but I think the exclamation mark should indicate my usage was only praising.

That depends if you consider geekiness to be a positive or a negative.
If it's positive, then there's a tick for that box, I'm sure.

I have some "antique" glasses with F1 cars on, and most of the above teams/brands above are on them, I think (they're in the other place, I
can't check now - deffo Brooke Bond and Yardley). Alas it was a set of
6 and I only have 5, and I've never seen the missing one.

I canrCOt watch the clip because itrCOs on Facebook,

There's a program called 'yt-dlp' that will download videos from
facebook, and elsewhere (the 'yt' stands for 'youtube').

but I *was* at the race

    Hat tip.
