Well, what's everyone's take on the ranking decisions for sanyaku?

I would like to see a group of Ozeki who are more consistent.
Only one yokozuna at the moment, not impossible in a couple of
    years there are none.

Very true. It really does feel like we have been in a long stretch of inconsistent Ozeki. On the other hand, I wodner if every generation says
the same thing about their ozeki?

Looking at Shodia, for example - while he has just been inexplicably unreliable this and last basho, if you look solely at his win/loss per
basho, he is a very consistent "mostly 8/7" wrestler (with the occasional hiccup). Oddly enough, he *is* consistent in general, but 1) those 8/7's,
Im sure we agree, aren't numbers we want from an Ozeki, and 2) it is a roller-coaster ride for him to even get his often-8/7's of late.

Sustaining double digits just long enough to get over the
"great barrier" makes a big difference to a wrestler's career
even if he's doing bare kachi-koshi every other basho after that.

I might recall wrong but had the impression in the years around 1977
they were more often at least 10-5

8-7 as a regular result is not good enough for an Ozeki. At least not
    back then.

Well! I think July basho is shaping up to be a fun one. There's a lot of
the newer batch of wrestlers collected up in the top third of the banzuke, which should make for a fun, fresh tournament.

Sorry to see that Ichininojo had to lose a slot, but it's understandable
given how well a lot of wrestlers did - there's not a lot of room to spare
    up there!

Ryuden has got to be feeling a little impatient to get back to Makuuchi,
but with an 8-7+fusensho, that's to be expected.

It will be fun to see if Atamifuji, now at J6, can keep working his way to makuuchi: I'm curious how he will handle the denser presence of makuuchi veterans who are in the top half of Juryo.

And, we mustn't forget that Asanoyama is now back after his year-long suspension, way down at Sandanme 22. There's going to be a lot of very frightened junior wrestlers in that division come July.
