The flags HE mentions are pretty far off the driver's eyelineubeing
elevated well above the racing surface...
...and he is not only looking to see them: he's figuring out in which >direction they're flying, so he can gauge the wind.
No real need to remind us that a driver who regularly finishes in the
bottom quartile has a bit more time on his hands to be looking around
him than the fastest driver out there.
