    I am guessing Ukraine?

    25+ years ago, I remember being on a chat about cars. IIRC, it was over
    yahoo messenger or the like. There was always one user who would start a private chat about someting quasi-related before diverting the chat onto
    how the US was "bad" for wanting to go after Osama after 9/11.

    I quickly learned to ignore their requests. Later, after hearing of
    Americans who went overseas and volunteered to become Al Quaida, I wondered
    if this person wasn't some recruiter or if he was (as I had always thought) just some weirdo who always had to steer conversations into politics.

    I would guess that kind of thing still happens on chats.
