I did, actually. My sister and her boyfriend came over in the early afternoon and we had a nice meal together. Unfortunately he had to work that night so they had to leave early but I'm glad I wasn't alone.

That is good. I got to meet my youngest niece for the first time. It is (usually) good to spend time with family.

We went to a buffet restaurant yesterday for US Thanksgiving. They
didn't have turkey out, but had a decent roast beast. Rest was your
typical buffet food. Glad FIL treated the entire family on that one. (I wouldn't want to know bill there was around 15 of us)

It's always nice to go to an AYCE on someone else's dime. Our local big-chain buffet has an "early bird special": between 1 to 4 PM, price drops to USD$9.99 per person. Got paid for next month so I might see if I can get my friend to take me tomorrow.

No we don't. Only buffet left is the mandaran chain. It's decent and
their carved section is better then the frozen generic c food.

back when i was with pookie we just ended going to buffets a lot
because i'd go some place else and my food would be shitty. at a buffet i had a choice.

we noticed that the same people would be there each time, like they ate there every single day and hung out for a long time.

I saw this a lot at a chinese one. a gang of guys with no jobs would just sit there all day and talk and read books. i don't know how they could allow it.
i guess these guys would be filler for when there were no regular customers. --- Synchronet 3.19b-Win32 NewsLink 1.113

Probably, that and the restaurant most likly made money on them. Even if
they just had coffee and lunch if you go every day you'd probably eat
    very little after a while.

I've worked at several fast food places that had older, retired customers en masse in the mornings from open (around 0530-0600) to around 1000. They normally didn't buy or eat a lot individually but with them literally
filling the dining room, they were always valued cutomers because without
them, the restaurant would have a lossy breakfast shift and in order to keep labor costs down, we'd have to send some employees home which was always a Catch-22 because we'd risk being short-handed during a possibly busy lunch time.

I got to know a lot of customers that way, and since I usually worked the morning shift, I'd memorize their "usual" order which always tickled them.

Belive it or not, sometimes I miss that job. It was fun most of the time
and getting to know my customers was something I truly enjoyed. I'm hoping that when I can get a car, I might go a couple of times a week to my
favorite places also. I feel so distant from life right now being
    housebound.

well around here they post sinage that says you can only be in the dining area for x amount of time.

regarding the chinese food restaurant, these dudes were in the front main area, there all day and not really making the place look decent. they also had loud conversations.

this place eventually went under while their other restaurants stayed open. it's too bad because the food was decent and the sushi was good.

My FIL doesn't need to order. We went with him to his daily place and as
he was walking in the door the waitress was pouring coffee and water and placing the order for his breakfast.

When he's done they place a coffee to go for his room mate. LOL

Yeah, but if they get to know you then you know you go there way too much.

My ex used to spend hundreds of dollars eating out each week. When i started to go with her to her 'work lunch places' everyone was stopping by and saying hi. Every single place knew her by name. I was like wtf, that's weird.

We've been going to this place since it opened in 2005. The owner and
his direct fmaily immigrated and became US citizens then decided to do
what they liked best: cooking. Having lived in the southwestern US, I
enjoy the real Mexican food on their menu and if you want something that
isn't on the menu, like a regional specialty of a Mexican state, they'll
    make it for you.

We've become friends with the family and their staff. I've never been disappointed once with the food and service.

I was just thinking back to my early-30s, dual income, no kids. We'd eat
out many nights a week, and some of the restaurants didn't have CRAYONS!

Of course, rent was reasonable back then, I think we paid 1200 for a 2
br/2 bath house with a garage and washer/dryer.

A friend of ours made more money than both my wife and I combined, and I
don't think she ever cooked for herself. She'd have people over for
dinner parties, I think her kitchen went unused otherwise.
