    Hi.

I need to ask, per Policy v4. Who is my RC, and who is my ZC?

I will be filing an official complaint soon. I've been trying my best to avoid this, but my patience has run out, and the time has arrived.

    Sorry, and thanks for answering.

    Hello Shaun,

I need to ask, per Policy v4. Who is my RC, and who is my ZC?

Nick Andre is the ZC of zone 1, North America.
Jay Harris is the RC of region 12, Eastern Canada.

    A complaint?

Your ZC/RC will be able to help you with technical issues but not social ones.

    Sorry, and thanks for answering.

Fido's golden rule.. a snippet from policy..

    9 Resolution of Disputes

    9.1 General

The FidoNet judicial philosophy can be summed up in two rules:

    1) Thou shalt not excessively annoy others.

    2) Thou shalt not be too easily annoyed.

In other words, there are no hard and fast rules of conduct, but reasonably polite behavior is expected. Also, in any dispute both sides are examined,
and action could be taken against either or both parties. ("Judge not, lest
    ye be judged!")

    Exactly.

I'm not excessively annoyed. I've read Policy v4 front and back. Why do you think I asked?

Someone has chosen to annoy me everywhere they can find me, even outside the BBS community. I'm exactly as annoyed as I should be. And this MUST be stopped!

I know why you asked, you seem to be excessively annoyed.

Someone has chosen to annoy me everywhere they can find me, even
outside the BBS community. I'm exactly as annoyed as I should be. And
    this MUST be stopped!

I don't see a policy complaint here. People may communicate with you nicely and honestly or not. There is no policy in effect and none that I can think of that we can implement that would make it so.

You might have a case to bring up with a moderator (if there is one, there are few today) in an echo area if someone is breaking the echo rules (if there are any). A moderator may of may not be much help but fidonet *C's are in no position to help with social issues.

Filing a complaint based on how annoyed you feel is not a good idea. You file based on how the annoying behavior is violating policy specifically.

You need to be able to clearly demonstrate the annoyance, how the annoyance cannot be ignored or subdued, the annoyance is unsolicited or continues after politely asking for it to stop, what parts of policy are being violated.

If this happened via Echomail, there may not be much that can be done to either stop the person or file a complaint since the general view is the onus is on you to hit the Next key or add the person to your twit-filter. Take it from me... the few trolls I had all vanished when I just stopped replying.

Exchanging Netmail fuck-you's back and forth might not be taken seriously in that both of you are deliberately engaging yourselves to annoy eachother. If its really one-sided and you honestly are ignoring it and not engaging or gaslighting any of it, it could be a valid complaint.

If the Fido Sysop is directly slamming your system unsolicited, sending material which could be construed as illegal or hate-speech under current
law, doing trickery like packet-ramming, mail bombs, deliberately altering kludges, etc... basically interfering with the operation of your system in a way you can prove it, it could be considered a valid complaint.

The best was a certain ZC of a certain Net where one was free to Xpress themselves. Oh was he ever friendly, chatty, amusing at first. Until I grew tired of all the rampant leftism and Rob Swindell worship.

Then suddenly overnight, it became, I know SUPER HACKERS. I know Anonymous. I know blackhats. I know everyone in every art group... Acid, Ice, you name
it. I know SSH and everything Telnet. I hang out in underground IRC
channels, Darkweb, I know people that can hack you tomorrow and you'll NEVER
be on the net again. Get ready 'cause your board is going DOWN because I
know SUPER HACKERS that can get into ANYTHING undetected. They can DDOS anything. They can hack Windows. Your XP is going down for GOOD. I know SUPER HACKERS WITH MILITARY EXPERIENCE. I know CIA BLACKOPS.

Nothing happened. Him, his net and downlinks vanished.

That person is alive and well on Facebook in my "BBSing 2.0" group. None of the aforementioned "friends" are spoken about and that person is always on their best behavior. I know ALL of what you speak of as I was a member of that same net at the same time you were.

Oddly, some people accuse me of allowing Micronet to be "ultra conservative". I guess they don't know about all of the liberals in my network and even the occasional avowed Communist or two...yet we all seem to get along just fine. Sure, we like to get into political debates occasionally but those all settle down in a friendly way.

Now for the Fidonet trolls: there always be some and from expected places. But these trolls have a very narrow view of the world and if you stay out of their jaundiced gaze, you're fine.

I don't recall any "iron fist" moments in Micronet, maybe I'm not familiar with the joke on that... Your net always seems to take care of itself and

How that nickname came about was about a decade or so ago, Shawn Highfield and I got into it about how I was running Micronet. He once commented that I "run Micronet with an iron fist" and the name stuck. Shawn and I didn't speak for several years after that arguement but we eventually patched things up between us. (Time has cooled our tempers and for me, if I get angry, I pay for it dearly physically now.)

The occasional litter in Micronet has been self-cleaning. Almost all of those problems left on their own in a self-righteous huff and are still in Fidonet, heh.

It is a source of pride for me to say that in Micronet everyone gets along and if they don't they take it elsewhere. Considering Micronet has nodes on every continent except Antartica, I don't accept the excuse that is often given in Fidonet that boorish behavior is due to "cultural differences". If that was the case, we'd have the same issues in Micronet as Fidonet does but what it boils down to is some people are assholes--no explanation needed.

Upgraded to 2.1 there, then Warp 3 when I was a Novell admin. Novell used curses-based DOS apps for most of their administration, and I could manage
my whole network from one desktop.

Ran Warp on my desktop for a couple of years, even set up lantastic for DOS networking under OS/2 in a DOS VDM to communicate with the BBS running DOS.

Later on, I ditched the BBS box and ran OS/2 native apps (Max, Squish and Binkleyterm) on my OS/2 desktop and I didn't notice when the BBS was under load.

Lol I don't mind telling the same stories again and again when it comes to OS/2. It just worked. It ran a multi-line board here for years without hiccup or real serious problems. When it came to Internet I held on to Netscape Communicator as lonnnnnng as I could. There was a media player thing ran
all the time here for Warp that was a command-line tool, maybe a precursor to VLC for Windows.
