    Hello All!

this is the charcter encoding test with putty as I wrote in my previous message:

    all italian accented letters here:

    ì - i with accent
    è - e with accent
    é - e with open accent
    ò - o with accent
    à - a with accent
    ù - u with accent

And here it is view using OpenSSH Client: https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/9ccf52d05942

My guess: the original message wasn't actually UTF-8 encoded (?)

Your CHRS kludge says UTF-8 but the body text is LATIN-1.

How can I see that is LATIN-1?

I did by pressing Ctrl-J and selecting LATIN-1 to view it properly. (In my GoldED+ setup I have conversions to CP850 from CP437, LATIN-1 and Michiel's partial UTF-8.)

You can check that it is LATIN-1 by viewing the hexdump (Alt-I) of your message. You will see that, for example, the first one (∞, lowercase i with grave accent) is hex EC. That's ISO-8859-1 (or CP1252) AKA Fidonet LATIN-1.

I am afraid not. I see that your game is Linux. I know little or
nothing about Linux. Windows is the game here.

    Fabio,

If your terminal is set to ISO-8859-1, you may be interested in checking what I posted here on 1.1.2023. I made the equivalent of Michiel's CP850<->UTF-8 chs files, but for LATIN-1<->UTF-8.

    Got it!
    Many thanks! :)

Ok, I'll google for characters encoding tables. :)

    GRAZIE CARLOS! :)

I wonder what ctrl-j would show once Vitaliy adds the iconv instead of charset maps. Probably, iconv --list? ;-))
