I am unsure of what "notable" means to you. A quick check of both iana and glibc doesn't yeild anything for LATIN-1. Both show LATIN1 as a valid alias for ISO-8859-1.

Some software messes things like this up, but that is simply a
software defect.
Yes. I suggest we avoid those mess ups and a good place to start would to be giving LATIN-1 the heave-ho.
