The Moscow Times is an independent online newspaper that has been providing news and analysis on Russia since 1992. Initially launched as a print publication catering to the English-speaking expatriate community in Moscow, it transitioned to an online-only format in 2017. In 2022, in response to increasing censorship laws following RussiaâεTs invasion of Ukraine, the publication relocated its headquarters to Amsterdam.
Despite facing significant challenges, including being labeled a âε¿foreign agentâε¿ by Russian authorities in 2023 and declared an âε¿undesirable organizationâε¿ in 2024, The Moscow Times continues to operate from abroad. It maintains a Russian-language service and remains one of the few independent Russian-language publications still active. The publicationâεTs editorial team, including founder Derk Sauer, is committed to providing independent journalism and continues to receive support from international sources.
The Moscow Times covers a wide range of topics, including politics, business, society, and culture, with a particular focus on developments within Russia. Despite the risks and pressures, the publication continues to offer quality journalism, aiming to provide readers with accurate and timely information.
